I was sitting on the couch petting my gray cat. He has short gray hair and is 7 years old. As I was patting him I noticed some white hair mixed in with the gray! I'm wondering if cats go gray just as humans do? I checked out my black cat who is 8 years old and if he had any white or gray hair it would be obvious because he's so black! So, do you think this is a sign of old age? Do cats age just like humans do?

My Kashmere did as she aged. I don't recall exactly what age it started happening but I did notice it around her face and in parts of her black fur. I don't know if everyone actually notices or not but I did.

Some do, not all. When they do, it's especially prominent around the face. Thinning of hair can also happen. Check out this article for more information:

I've never actually thought of checking for gray hair. Our cat has a predominant orange shade of fur with strands of white here and there. But I couldn't tell whether they're aging, even the cats we once had, especially when they've stopped growing. Better get some research done on this. I saw a link from one of the members.

My cat is 6 years old and I can't tell if it's aging because his fur is a mixture of gray and white. I just noticed that his movements are slower now than before and doesn't play much and sleeps a lot too.
