At the risk of sounding over eager...

Today was an important day for me. Well, at least I hope it is! Today I was to get some pain medicines. Now, y'all all know I have these silly allergies that make finding safe medicines sometimes difficult. So, I asked my doctor to refer me to a pain specialist clinic. I went on Thursday and they faxed the script to a compounding pharmacy in town. The pharmacy called on Friday, of course their delivery guy had already left, so it was going to be Monday before they could get it out. I also had to pay for the medicine because my insurance wouldn't cover it... However, it was less than what the co-pay for was on one that they would cover - like $50 LESS! So, today when I got home from work I was sitting in the kitchen talking to the roomie when there was a rap on the door and then the doorbell. "Are we expecting someone?" the roomie asked. I, however, jumped up and dashed to the door, yanking it open. There was a very nice looking young man holding a small box in his hand. "I hope that's medicine!" I said. "Yes it is," he replied and asked if I were "insert my real name here." "I am!" I did NOT yank it out of his hands, but I have to say, he probably wondered if I really were in that much pain if I could act like that! I will say that I really am, and today is not actually a very good day - but I'm so glad to finally get something to try and help with the pain that I was happy to see the guy. Granted, I also had taken 6 Aleve at lunch, so I wasn't in quite as much pain as I had been earlier that day. Of course, when I went in to open the package I proceeded to knock my drink over on the table and clear it of cats! After I wiped that mess up I finally got to look at my pills and I will start them tonight with my bedtime meds! So, do you think I sounded over eager?

I do not blame you, it's awful to live with constant pain. I hope that these work well for you! It's a shame you have to spend so much time trying to manage pain rather than enjoying life but hopefully these will help.

Well Elicbxn I know how that kind pain can make you eager to get some relief. I hope they are all you expect and need. I know some things that I take take have to build up in the body and it takes time to become effective. I hope you don't have to wait for the medicine to build up and get relief right away.

Well, its one of those that you have to build up to the full dose, been there, done that, but that one still worked even at the lower dose because ANYTHING was better than NOTHING! I hope this first week will at least start me getting better sleep!

She mentioned two meds, but wants to try them one at a time, I'm going back on the 18th so we'll see how its working then. If its doing the job, she'll probably leave it that way, otherwise she might change it. name of the stuff "Naltrexone" 1.5 mg

I think it's understandable to be enthusiastic - if you've been in pain, and the meds will help, you should want the meds, naturally. It's too bad that the clinic didn't have some sample packs that they could give you in the meantime.

These pills had to be compounded so samples are probably not likely...

This is a special compounding pharmacy not my "regular" one. Tho... there is a small one in town that does - Tsrrytown Pharmacy http://www.tarrytownpharmacy.com/services.php (not a referral link)

hi elicbxn not in lieu of the pain you have if 6 aleve barely touch it.I would be frantic too.Hurting is just no fun. you know I have often wondered why Rite Aide would no deliver. It was a pain in the you know what to have to take the bus just to get my prescriptions. now of course here the medic pill pusher takes care of all that. These people are not registered nurses but I guess you would call them aides that have been t rained to give out the medications.

At mom's place a nurse, at least an LVN, handed out the meds. I haven't found the Therapy room in the new place yet... I want to do that soon.

No, i don't. I know what it is to be in pain everyday. I hope these meds help u. U don't need to be taking that many alleve at one time, lady. I take pain meds every day. Wish i didn't have that kind of pain everyday but i do so we just have to do what we have to to take care of it. Good Luck.

Well, its just about the same as taking two prescription strength pills. I know I kind of abuse those NSAIDs because for a long time it was all I could use to help with the pain.

Lets hope these meds work for you! Anyway I think you were more excited then eager! I am sure the delivery man has seen and experienced alot of different reactions when he does deliveries! One more thing. You took 6 Aleve at lunch? Never heard of anyone doing that before! Yikes!

I'd guess that he's probably more used to delivering to people who aren't walking than who are. And not flinging doors open then someone who is... Yeah, that works out to about 2 prescription strength naproxen.

Perhaps you just wanted those painkillers too much that result in such overacting behavior. Anyway, I would advise you to take less of such painkillers as painkillers do have certain side effects. I am not quite sure what had cause the pain you were having. But better try some natural treatment first before going to pain medicine as they will stay in your body for a long period and eventually you will find them to be less effective in dealing with pain.

No, I want the pain killers because I'm in pain and the doc who prescribed them is a pain specialist I'm paying a lot of money to for help. Those pills didn't help, the new ones are better. And just so you know, I now have hydrocodone elixir and I'm only about a quarter done with a bottle that is supposed to last 2 months - and I'm a month into it - so I'm not over doing the meds... I have degenerative discs in my neck and arthritis, probably more in my lower back, but I haven't been to the doc since that MRI. I've just celebrated a good friend's 60th birthday today and I'm looking down the road at the end of the year for my 60th...
