Menu planning...

I recently started planning my weekly menus again. I like planning out what we are going to eat for dinner each night, it saves time and money. I never have to ask myself "what should we have for dinner tonight?" I already know, and if the kids want to know, all they have to do is look at the menu plan for the week posted on the fridge. Having a menu plan also helps with the grocery shopping and eliminates unnecessary spending on groceries we don't need. This is just one of my efforts to help save some money. What do you think about menu planning? Have you ever tried menu planning?

I've never been able to work with a menu plan. I've tried and and always quit because I will suddenly get a craving for chicken when beef is on the menu or someone will mention sandwiches with all the trimmings and dinner seems boring so I switch. What I do to save money is be sure to keep staples on hand and when I go to plan a meal, I plan from what I have. If there are leftovers, I try to use them first, but sometimes I freeze them for later. Eating leftovers is like getting a free meal and really messes up a menu plan!

Meat is often higher priced than other things, but not always. Good luck with your plan.

In an effort to save money and have more money at the end of the month I have to stick to this menu plan. I don't get cravings for meat, although I do miss chicken. Eliminating meat from the diet is definitely going to be a real big saver.

I don`t do much menu planning noadays as I live alone. But I try to buy reasonable amounts of food and I use all the leftovers. For me, menu planning means making an omelette the day after I had rice, pasta or veggies. I don`t eat more than I want to, but save every bit.

I like to keep the left overs too for lunch the following day, so the kids will have something decent to eat. I don't mind them having peanut butter and jelly sandwich's but I want them to have a variety of foods for lunch. Yep, save it all and it will help cut down on the amount of groceries you have to buy.

I did that when I had other people living with me. My ways have changed a lot since I live alone. It seems that some days I live only out of leftovers, but I do make ups on them as I don`t like to eat the same thing every day.

I don't do menu planning. It is too constraining, and it also does not take into account changes in one's schedule. I like having flexibility and creativity in my cooking. I like to explore and create, and meal planning does not allow for that. Plus, when I go shopping, I like to choose things that are fresh and local. I choose what is available and what strikes my fancy, and I go from there. I may have a bit of a list, but things can change quite a bit once I get into the store. Since I do buy so much fresh produce, I need to honor its time frame in terms of when to prepare it. For instance, if a tomato is starting to get a little too soft, it is time to toss it into a soup or stew; I couldn't do that if I tied myself to a meal plan.

I buy a lot of fresh produce too, but that is something that is bought as needed. Usually, we buy bananas, oranges, apples, spinach, and salad. These are eaten throughout the day at any time, but I limit the kids to one a day such as one orange, one apple, one banana, this way it lasts longer and they get their pick of fresh fruits. Thank you for the response
