I know most video games can be completed and those that can be beat are done so in probably 50 hours or less, but I guess it depends on the genre of the game as well. I say that, because there are some RPG games that I can think of as well as RTS that are closer to 100 or more.
However, there are also these online RPG games that are not beatable. Games such as World of Warcraft, and one I personally play and really enjoy called "Tibia" on these games, you can spend literally a lifetime playing, unless they shut them down one day which is pretty likely to happen.
This is probably sad to admit, but I have been playing this Tibia game on and off for the course of 10 years now. I know of people who have even been playing longer, so I guess I do not hold a record, haha.

I don't remember how long I have spent playing on games but on many RPG games in game consoles I have definitely spent more than 50 hours, of course that's not consecutively. One of my favorite game sequels is Suikoden, all the way back from the PSX/PS1 era. I'm hoping the company will release another part and the first for the PS3 console soon. As for online games, I can only name a few that I enjoyed playing. I think I got too bored after a while or my priorities just shifted. Anyway, as of now, I'm off online games and console games as well, but I do D.O.T.A. play occasionally. My gaming days are not really over but they are much less now and I can say those days are part of the great memories of my life.

Everything in moderation. Playing games is not bad as long as you don't do it more than any other things in your life. If you are an RPG-gamer of consoles, you will have heard of the game series I mentioned, but since you haven't I can safely assume then that you aren't. That's okay, some people like other genres more than the other.

The game I have spent the most numbers of hours on is Minecraft. This is because Minecraft isn't the type of game that can be beaten.A lot of games take about 20-50 hours to complete and after it is completed their is little left to entice you to replay. Minecraft has more replay value as you can build infinite numbers of structures, they keep adding new features to the game all the time and every world that you start is different.

Ah yes Minecraft. That is a very popular game, though personally, I have never played it myself. I would like to try it one day though I think.
Just like you have told me about Minecraft, like I mentioned the game I play called Tibia, in that game they also are constantly changing it/adding new features to the game and there are different worlds in the game as well to make it interesting. And, of course, I think I already mentioned this but it can not be completed/beaten as well.

I had almost 100 hours on final Fantasy X before completing it but I spent a lot of time exploring and talking to all characters. That's probably to longest time I spent on single player game.
As for the multiplayer, I play Quake 3 with some pauses since it went out in 99. Still learning new things in the game and I'm not getting bored of it. It's pretty much the only game I play these days.

I think I've spent hundreds of hours playing Final Fantasy X, but that's the longest I can remember playing a game.
