After using two kinds of flea remedies on my cat she now has this bald spot on her side with the skin being pink there. She has been licking it alot especially after I try to put anything on it. The skin is what I worry about the most then the loss of hair. I am wondering if this is a allergic reaction to the flea medications or the fleas themself, or even something else. I used Frontline for cats first and then my brother gave me that powdery food grade diamataeous earth (sp?). I was wondering if the combination of the two might have given her a reaction? I put a cloth around her not that tight or loose she she doesn't lick it constantly. This is worrying me so much now.

I would probably not have used both of these together. One and then if it didn't do much after afew days I would try the other. And this cat may have a scar where no hair will grow back. But that is better than the alternative.

But now you don't know cause you used both. Oh, well. She is getting better and that is what is important.

Yes using just one of them was my first choice. I don't know if my brother tried to convince me to use both or what, but I should have just went with my own instincts. Also she could have just had a reaction to the first thing I used which was the Frontline.

It could be an allergy to either of the flea products or, as you said both of them mixed together. Did you ever use them before? Has she ever had fleas before? The only thing I can think for you to put on it is organic coconut oil. This is harmless to cats and many cats like to eat it. Also, Neem cream is good but you have to find a product specifically made for cats with Neem cream or oil in it. I don't think you can use Neem cream that's made for people on a cat. Also tea tree oil is not good for cats. I know I read that somewhere. Maybe you could try Aloe Vera or also Vitamin E oil. I did a search for natural remedies and couldn't find much. Mostly sites that sell stuff. I understand how worried you are. You may have to take her to the vet and I know what that costs.
A little bit of Witch Hazel will stop the itch for a while, if it's itchy. The best thing for a site that I could find is www.earthclinic.com/Pets/cats.html but it was too long for me to read the whole page to see if they had a remedy for her bald spot problem. Sorry I can't help more.

Thank you deazil, all of those remedies and such sound interesting. I actually did try the coconut oil on it but she still kept trying to wash it off of course. I will look for the Neem for cats. I didn't know that tea tree oil was not good for cats, thanks. I have heard of it but it has a very distinctive smell and haven't used it much. She has never had fleas as far as I know, I think she might have had these fleas for awhile though, basically she is just an indoor cat but has gotten out in the times when fleas were probably very active. I'm thinking even if she stays on the back porch she can get them, cause other spiders and ants get in so why not the fleas? :( My mom always has to have her out there on the porch, ugh. I never used any flea products on her except one thing I can't remember the name of now, it was a few years ago.

You're welcome. There's a little controversy over the tea tree oil. Some people say it's okay in diluted form. Others say no, that it's made their cat sick. I think it's an ingredient in some products for cats' skin. I just would rather not use it. Neem cream or oil is very good. I use it myself for skin problems. It's kind of stinky, though.
Fleas. Ugh. I hate fleas. Nasty things. Easy to get, hard to get rid of. I hope she's doing better today.
