next time, cook only bread crumbs...

Well, the lousy "chef" in me decided to do breaded chicken drumstick like what they are selling in famous fast foods. I had some chicken thighs, eggs, and bread crumbs. After marinating the chicken a little bit with a little salt and some spices, I dipped them in eggs and laced them with bread crumbs before frying them in deep oil. I even joked to the kid in the house that one famous fast food should close shop now as I am about to defeat their popular chicken dish. When the kid started to eat my chicken, she was saying, "Yum...I love the bread crumbs!" So I told her to wait 'til she tastes the chicken. After taking a bite of the chicken she decided that the famous fast food's chicken is still better. Then she added, "Next time, just cook bread crumbs." I did not know whether I have to laugh or be sad about that comment. At the end of the day, it's my pet dogs who will surely appreciate my cooking. They never fail to finish their food to the last crumb when I cook the food myself.

Don't you just love children, their honesty and they will tell you exactly what they think whether you like to hear it or not, adults, however will probably lie and say yes it was 'nice' but when you offer them any more they politely refuse! I am fussy about chicken, I like chicken done as chicken with no fancy bits or breadcrumbs, of course the trimmings have to go with it, sprouts, carrots, and apple sauce!

Wow, that sounds like a real chef's specialty with all the trimmings.

I think you should work on this recipe, it has potential! I have done something similar with chicken bites. That might work better for you than thighs as the chicken is cut into small pieces, so it will cook quickly. I was put off chicken bites when watching a programme about how they were prepared, that was why I tried them out, they tasted as good and with more chicken too. At least your dogs are doing well, they know good home cooked food when they taste it!

If you seasoned the chicken well, the only thing that would really hurt the flavor is either wrong seasoning or cooking too long. Maybe just try frying the chicken at 10 degrees higher for about 8 minutes less. The key to the fast food fried chicken is QUICK cooking time. They deep fry and pressure fry. Cooking quickly allows the chicken to retain its juices while also causing the skin to draw up and to crisp up.

I would like to try and cook some chicken in that way,Its some thing I have been planning to try for a while but never got around to it.I would imagine that the reason she prefers the fast food chicken is them using a different combination of spices.Probably if you keep making it you will perfect your seasonings and it will get better.Though if they really like the bread crumbs you could also try coating other meats and food with them to see if they prefer those dishes.Especially if you pick a dish with which you are not competing with a fast food dish.

Hi Ankle! I hope that I can perfect my cooking by constant practice. I think I will do it better next time because I have seen where I did wrong.

That's funny, kids say stuff like that and it makes you wonder when did they ever get smarter than you are? At least your crumbs are yummy, so maybe those spices that have rubbed off the crumbs must have been really tasty. I wonder though why it didn't seep through the chicken? Oh well, at least there goes your fried bread crumbs.

I probably did not marinate long enough. I now realize it now. LOL
