In the digital world upgrading is seen at a galloping rate. Mostly youngsters rush to upgrade their gadgets. Is upgrading really called for? Do you upgrade your gadgets and if so do you use the new features ever? What is it with upgrading if most of the features are never used? Your views please.

Lets see -
I have a handset purchased 4 years back... and it is no where near to anything called smart...
I have a desktop which is 6 years old and nothing except the keyboard and mouse have changed on this...
And I still have a walkman though there are no audio cassettes available in the market today...
But then, I am not a youngster anymore... and that is why I dont have any upgrades done to any of the gadgets I have

Kids these days would alwsys want to be one of the.first peoole who can.get hold of tbe latrst gadgets, apps, etv. Some of them might benefit from it, if they are into the trvhnical stuff, but othets, well, they just want to seem to "belong" to the in group.

I have seen these youngsters bragging about their latest upgraded possessions but having the least intention of making use of them to their optimum level!

It is disgusting when adults fall in that category of 'show offs' That reminds me when my sister had hired a piano and placed it in the living room when none of them knew how to play! Ugh I say!

That.s true. It msy be because thry nevsr knes hiw to use thdm or realy doezn't need them.
Actually, this does not only happen to kids. My sister in law is one of tbose who wanted to have tbe latest gadgdts and yet she really dodxn't know how to use them nor have tbe intentionz of using them you won't beluevd thix, but when Samsung Omnia went out to the market, she hurriedly asked her hudband to buy ons for her. On just a few months it has become obsolete coz of thd Galaxy line. Snd tbat was almost 3yrs ago, and yet, she still doesn't kniw how to use all gbe features of het phone. I thinj she liked to brag in a eay, byf she couldn' t do that on me. Coz no matter what kind of latest gadget she has, shr doesn't hsve tbe k.owledge hoe to mske usr of it without,my hp.hahaha!

We all have Santas in our life - some fat, some tall, some drunk, some sober but they have one thing in common - a kind heart!
I know what you do - crossing the ferry etc - is a boring chore for you but I envy you. That entire experience is so romantic perga...

Sure, upgrading is important. As new technology and advances become known, current techology can be improved on. That said, however, I see two questions that actually need to be asked that rarely are. How much has changed between what I have now and the upgrade? How much use will I get from the new features in the upgrade? Too many people, in my opinion, are of the attitude if it's newer, gotta have it. Yet new doesn't always equate with better. Sometimes it's just very different. Take Windows 8 for example. What a change!!! Better? Jury is still out on that one. Better for me? Don't see how. Many times upgrades include a few minor additions and changes. Why spend umpteen dollars to get something that's basically the same as I have now? Other times, the upgrade might be significant, but it's mostly made up of things I would never use. So in essence, the upgrade is the same that I have now. Again, why spend umpteen dollars to get something that's basically the same as I have now?
I've learned to look at upgrades carefully. I will often continue to use an older version throughout many upgrades. Somewhere down the line I'll pick up the newest upgrade and then get everything that's come out. I like to wait until all the kinks have been worked out of upgrades and also until I'm sure there are significant new features that I will definitely use.
How do you use upgrades?

Wise thinking there!
I can't agree with you more. I have the most basic cell phone which serves my purpose. I am contented with the desk top pc as I hardly move out. I did go for the wireless land line as wired phones go haywire specially during the rainy season. Same with my net connection which is independent of a phone line. I too would see if the upgrades suit my purpose but never with the intetion of competig with the neighbours![em]lol[/em
I have a digital camera though with many features some of which I have yet to tap!
