Some gym members pay for their own lockers, but majority do not see any need for that since we are given a key to a locker every time we come for workout. While doing the workout, you may either just keep the key or deposit it at the counter or clerk.
Now I was at the gym this morning and after signing in she gave me a number. I proceeded to the locker room, opened the locker with the numbered key given to me, and lo and behold, inside it was a bag, an expensive-looking cellphone, etc. The locker is already used by another member! I returned the key and told the secretary that it was already occupied by someone else. She then gave me another key with a different number.
I am thinking now, this could happen to anyone or to me. While I am thinking that my things are safe inside the locker, the same mistake could happen, like someone else might open the locker where I keep my things, and I wouldn't like that. That is why I never deposit or give the key to the clerk after I have put my things inside the locker.
What do you think of this situation?

Hi
oh how can the clerk be so careless. she should make a note as to which one is occupied and taken. You did the right thing by keeping the key with yourself. Its better.

Hi friend, i wonder why the clerk is irresponsible? We must keep our key within our self if we keep important things in our locker, as you gave the key to the clerk after finding the locker is not for your belongings, not every one is in your sort, some person may take the locker items if he find any necessary thing for himself. The clerk is responsible for the locker, if the owner gives the key to him/her. Hope she never do the same mistake again

Well it was a good job you are honest isn't it! Someone could have easily of walked off with the possessions in that locker! Our lockers at the gym have a £1 coin slot which is refundable, you put your pound in to lock it, take the key with you, although carrying the key around can be cumbersome, and when you open the locker the pound coin can be taken out. I have been to a gym where you type your own 4 digits to open/lock it, good providing you can remember it, you have to type it in twice to lock and once to open. I worry that someone is watching me.

hi cutie18f.
well, first of, what you did was the honest thing to do. i'm sure the gym member who was occupying the locker at that time and even the receptionist at the counter really appreciated your gesture. i think it was an honest mistake on the part of the receptionist. i understand your reservation about leaving the key of your locker to the receptionist as such a thing can happen to you. anyway, i'm sure the gym, has since that time, enforced new rules and regulations so such an unfortunate incident won't happen again.
in the gym that i go to, lockers are available but it is up to the members to bring their own padlocks. i use the padlocks with a numerical combination as a lock. i hate keeping keys and there are instances that i lose the key so i had to break the padlock and we all know how hard and annoying if that happens.
anyway, i hope this locker issue has been resolved by now in your gym.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

That is also a good system Allen. I would have preferred that. Maybe I should suggest to the owner for members to bring their own lock. In my gym, the moment we sign in the clerk gives us the key to our lockers. It's up to us where we put the key after this. You can leave it with the clerk or carry it with you. I sometimes have it with me in my shoes, or pocket, or tie it to the string of my drawers.
