A classic horror movie, which i did not like that much.. It was too long and confusing. i don't think it was a good interpretation of the book at all. When i read the book, it was stated clearly.. all i got from the movie was that Danny was telepathic and JAck could be possessed by something or was just going crazy.. i expected much from this since lots of people said it was really scary.

I have the VCD at home lying down there for years. Waiting to watch it together with my family because I am scared to watch horror movie alone. I used to tell my son to watch it during his school holiday. But time passes by so fast that school has started yesterday. Maybe we will watch it during March holiday. Really not scary? If scary then I will watch it during the day time.

It is not really scary, you can even watch it at night.. The sound can be considered as creepy..and there are shocking pictures that pop up, just a few of them.. And there are some chasing around a maze.. you can watch it alone..

Thanks. In that case I will get my husband and son to watch together at night ... with a packet of Garrette Popcorn.

I saw this movie a while back and I thought it was pretty scary especially the part when the twins appear in the hallway and such hallucinating images that the husband had been experiencing. I've never read the book though so I can't really compare it to the movie. But I've heard that even Stephen King didn't like the way Stanley Kubrick made the ending to the movie. I suppose the ending was different from the book? I don't really know as I haven't read the book. The thickness of the book really turns me off from reading it.

Yes, it was totally different.. I am quite turned off by thick books too, which is why i ask around first if it is really worth reading. I wish the ending could've been like the book since it was not confusing..

Stephen King can be long winded and confusing. If I remember correctly it was the place that had something that was possessing people/him. Weird movie. I never cared for it. It wasn't scarey to me. The book was much better.

I didn't know these great movies were written by King until this last year. Shawshank was too. He is a great writer. GOod ideas.

I have never read the book, and i don't think i will ever. i just read the summary of it in Wikipedia.. thanks for that site. I have only seen his other movie, Green Mile, which was kind of suspense too, but more on drama.. i cried like a baby near the end..

Yeah, i don't really take note of the writers of the novels unless most of their novels have been made into movies, like nicholas Sparks.. I was watching Green Mile when i remembered my friend actually tell me half of the story, since he read the book and i remember it while watching the movie..he only narrated until the huge guy raping the girls part.

Kubrick was an exacting movie maker. 2001 set a new standard for special effects but had little dialog and was barren of character development. Barry Lyndon had a lot of great photography but was over 3 hours long. For The Shining he filmed some scenes over and over again. Shelly Duvall said she had to cry so much on camera that after a while she could not longer bring tears to her eyes.

Kubrick was probably into reality.

That's kind of funny yet sad, crying over and over again... she should've just put some eye mo or something on her eyes to have tears.. she must have dehydrated after a couple of takes. Didn't you already respond to this discussion? You could have just put it in your earlier comment.

Yeah, i read the summary of it in wikipedia.. it's was quite short, just a few paragraphs... since i can't really find the book in our library... They changed a few scenes from the book, and the ending too.. the end o the movie kind of was bland to me.

Yes, I don't think it is a classic horror movie, I don't feel any horror during watch it, actress is too urgely, she don't attracted to me , The shining is not too shine. my only impress is the blood water flow from the door , it is copyed in Steph chow's action movie Kungfu. wow, it is seems that this is a claissic scene.

Yeah, the blood was a lot... The girl was kind of lame too, but maybe that was her role.. jack Nicholson was pretty creepy though, if i was in the woman's situation i would have left a little bit sooner. and the decomposing women was creepy.
