Do you have a deep fryer in your house. I know someone's who lost their house to fire due to the deep fryer. I want one but grease fires scare me. I guess as long as you watch it carefully it's ok. Have you had a bad experience with deep fryers.

Hello poppop. I had a deep frier years and years ago but seldom used it. I don't believe they are any more dangerous for fires than any other piece of kitchen equipment. Kitchen fires are started because of carelessness and the cook not watching what ever is being cooked. I wouldn't have one because they taking up room in the kitchen and I don't have room to spare. When I want to deep fry something I just use a deep kettle and save the oil in glass jar. The glass jar takes up less room and can be used a couple of time depending on what was fried in it.

I make deep fried foods once in a while, but I have never wanted to have a deep fryer. I have the idea that oil has to be new each time so I don`t reuse it. Deep fryers are supposed to keep oil at a proper temperature, but I don`t dare use them for a couple of french fries once in a while.

I bought one a couple of years ago but never use it. I was attracted by the though of making decent chips (French fries to Americans) and bought my self a large bottle of oil. The problem was that I was unable to buy the frozen chips without them already being impregnated with oil, which resulted in them seeming quite greasy. I used it once and was very disappointed, so I emptied and cleaned it and it has sat in the kitchen obsolete ever since.

No, I generally avoid fried foods. We try to eat fairly healthfully, and deep fried foods don't exactly fit very well within a healthy lifestyle. My parents had a deep fryer, and they never had an issue with it. Of course, they also rarely used it, because my mother thought that cleaning it took too much effort.

I have wanted to get one as my hubby loves to make his own cut potato chips but he uses a deep frying pan with alot of oil. Thankfully he's had no problems with it. I have also wanted to try a deep fried turkey, I've heard they are delicious... but even more dangerous to cook!
