Do you really remember the mental notes you have created?

Haha, just a thought, usually when we do remember things, we take mental notes and hope that we would be able to remember them when it is most convenient and take care of it? Have you have really done something out of such notes in your mind alone?
I usually do have done this, taking mental notes of what i need to do, what i need to buy and so on, but then rarely would i remember them if i needed to! haha I would remember it when i see what needs to be done still undone! And then that meant i need to really jot it down in my notes already so it won't be forgotten any longer.

I used to remember everything, but I find it harder as I grow older.Scientists say tht the brain is shrinking and that's he cause of not being able to store so much information, specially new information. That's one explanation of why older people remember more what they did as youn people but not what they did a day before.

oh that is why, i guess all the other information (the older ones) get to be retained more than those most recent. i think that is what is with me... haha i mean, i often have short term memory loss nowadays... =( oh so mental notes does not come so handy.

Well, I could do the same things like you do but sometimes do forget things. Maybe of old age, I guess!
But shopping things would always stick on my mind!

I often fail. I don't know why. Maybe because my brain capacity has an end to it, and I can't remember everything, and maybe for my brain it wasn't important enough. Which is sometimes bad, because sometimes I forget stuff that are really important :P.

hehe oh yeah, i think that our minds have to be put to good use, actually otherwise we will just be wasting the capacity of our brain, but then again i think i am using it well, always reading stuffs, always use it with works with analysis and stuffs, but then i am just as having a problem with everyone else - finding it hard to remember the things i have got to do if i do not keep a note.

For me, this depends. If there's a lot of stuff, I need to write it down. But I can remember a short grocery list or something like that if I really try. What I can't do is decide I'm going to memorize 5 or 6 things on the grocery list, stare at it, then have it memorized. I have to use the information somehow. And the more I use it and work with it, the better I remember it.
For example, say I need to go to the store and pick up a pound of hamburger, a gallon of milk, a dozen eggs, cotton swabs, aspirin, and some dog food. The milk, hamburger, and eggs are all in quantities I usualy buy, so I don't have to remember this specifically.
-The first thing I'd do is count the objects. I need to get six things.
-Then I arrange the items by general location in the store. I would get the hamburger first, then the eggs, then the milk. Then I would leave the grocery department and get the aspirin, the cotton, then the dog food.
-I list these by the first letter of each word. H, E, M, A, C, D.
-Then I come up with some stupid sentence or phrase (the more stupid the easier to remember) where the letters are the first letters of each word in the sentence. Have early mornings and colorful days.
And off to the store I go. It's never failed. If I spend 10 minutes doing this before I go, I won't forget. I use other tactics for longer lists, but I don't think they're as effective.

oh hi there!! i do think what you shared was a great one, mental notes aren't really our thing when we would have to go get a lot of things, so as not to miss out anything. I am not a "list" it all person.. i rarely make lists haha i don't know but i always just like em noted in my phone but never an actual list on a paper that i have to follow word for word.
But guess what, over the holiday grocery shopping, i did fixed my mom's list and i did not know it was a good one! mom even said my list made us finish our grocery shopping faster unlike when we were following her lists which was all jumbled and all over the page of the paper. :D thank you for sharing!! :D
