My dog is old and lazy what should i do?

I have a yellow lab and I thought it would be great to get him a friend. We went to the shelter and tried every dog they had, he hated them all. Then a few weeks later they called and had a puppy so I didn't even try I just went and fell in love with the puppy, and brought him home. At first my dog liked him but then he was annoyed LOL. He is now at my mom's house (the puppy) because the cat started beating him up so bad and hurting him that we thought it was safer for him there. My friend had labs your dogs age and she gives them crushed flax seed every day and she said that she really seen an increase of activity with them after about a week.

I don't know if I would go as far as getting a new puppy. You need to get your dog walking. My mom bribes her dog by giving her a treat when they get back from a walk. Another thing...does your dog have arthritis? He is getting up in years. Maybe taking him to the vet and asking him would be a good idea.
