Do you consider the extras before buying an animal?

I always put in the extra with my budget, or before getting an animal. This is carriers, leashes, collars, treats, toys, baby ates, etc. Now my sister, and a close friends have 1 cat. They didn't consider the extra things, neither have a cat carrier, right now my sister (or should I say my Mom brings my sisters cat in my carriers). When I move out all the carriers are going with me, I really could care a less if she has one. Each carrier is about $30.00 (depending on the size), my sister whined over the cost, and said she has mine to use (for now that is, but once I move she wont be using them). My friend's cat got fleas and I said about Advantage (it is $125 a pack for 6 months), but it works, I swear by it, and give my 3 cats, and rabbit it. I put this money away to get it, she goes why waste my money on that, so instead she left her cat roam around with feas infest her bed, couch, and clothes, in the end she had to pay three times that cost at the vet then whined over it. I always wonder where I work if people actually consider everything, shampoos, toys, what if this happens.

With so many animals killed today I think the best is to rescue/adopt an adult one , cheers.

this is a way to rescue them, instead buying new pet.

After having two big dogs (German Shepherds) I fell ill. My lymphoma, even if a great part of the cost is being paid by the insurance, still has been a mayor economic problem. That was one of the reason why I decided not to have another dog. A dog of the size U like means as much expense an I spens for myself in food. And the vet and shots and all that are not covered by any insurance in my country. So it was simply a "I cannot afford it".

I don't really think people consider all the expense when they own a family pet. They DO cost money, and sometimes a lot of money. Plus, there is quite a bit of care involved too...including potty training and discipline. All they see is this cute little puppy or cat or bird, etc., without thinking of the consequences later on. And I think this is why so many puppies and pets are given as Christmas gifts, then abandoned a few months later or given away. It takes a lot of work to raise pets but you can't beat the love they give back.

I think that a lot of people don't consider the extras before they buy a pet. If you have never had a pet before it can be hard to imagine all of the things that your pet needs. If you have had pets before it is easier to take the extras into consideration because you can use your experience from previous pets. I remember the first time I got a rabbit. I didn't know much about rabbits, I read books about them, but I had no personal experience. When my husband and I bought our rabbits it was much easier because I knew exactly what they needed and how much those things were going to cost.
