Friends, I ve changed my professional career starting from a computer engineer to designer, then to architect and then to video editor, then to professional videography to journalism and also to an offset operator. In fact, I enjoy all these fields and its my nature not to stick in one activity. May be I loose interest after a certain time, when i find no more innovation in my little capacity of wealth n local interest. I am here naturally for making money, but the outer orbit of my coming to this site is toe share my views n experiences with others, who may need it or may in turn make me more knowledgeable too. As the topic suggests, i want to discuss some of the technical know hows of building a house/ home. This discussion may help persons, who are not of civil background but planning to construct a house for them. So i encourage all such persons to ask questions, ideas, which can be solved either by me or some other friend. The basic requirement of building a house is naturally a patch of land and perhaps you have already own a land. Now the next step is to clean it and make a proportional drawing of the land on a piece of paper mentioning the road and direction. Next, if you believe in vastu shastra, itds the right time to think. After finalization of design, if you think of vastu shastra, you will end up with a lots of problems, at least financially. Unlike feng sui, vastu needs physical changes in design. So its always wise to think about this, before design. If you dont believe in all these philosophy, fine, just go ahead. You are the best judge of your requirements. No one other than you can think better about your house requirement. So just make a drawing on the piece of paper, which contains all your requirements like number of room, garage, portico, opening space, garden, lobby area, fountain, dinning, kitchen etc. Before reaching to any architect, you should have a clear vision on your requirement. Reflect your hobbies like roof top garden, swimming pool, painted wall, fountain, pets place whatever in your design. If you are unable to draw these thing, i mean if you dont understand how and where to keep these spaces, just make a list of these things at least on a piece of paper....

I think before you do any of these things you should make enquires concerning the suitability of the land for development; is it stable or subject to movement, is it contaminated, is it liable to flooding, etc all the best, urban

true, if a land is in flood affected area or any similar problem, then definitely one should opt for another plot. The basic principle is that whatever may be the land price, the construction cost will be same, so better to choose a level land. Sometimes, people choose land which is little far from the main city due to cheap price. But always, you are to add your fuel price from your land to the center of the city at least for 25 years. After adding this cost to the land cost, you can judge better, whether you should go for that land or not. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing details about you, you are multi-talented, I wish you a very very bright future.I have 3 houses of my own, in fact they were made on our own plot after partly demolishing the paternal houses, i had bought the houses nearby and added them. You know your worst enemies are your neighbors, with whom you share a common wall, i can't leave a 3' space each side, so i had to make the plans, drawing myself,

Sir, Thnx a lot for your blessings. Its true that some of our neighbors are not co-operative at all and we are to keep ourself very much alert for them. Still i guess out of 4 walls at leas 2 will be shared with good neighbors. Otherwise its really hard to live with peace of mind. Its nice to know that you have designed your own house. It gives ample satisfaction sometimes.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well that is great to hear that u have tried your hands at so many professions and i think that will help u shape you personally and professionally as well. Besides as u have mentioned about how to proceed before making of a house, i am sure many would be at benefit as i know many are not aware of so many many things before building a house for themselves. What say?

rite subhojit, first of all thank you for your piece of appreciation. In fact i want people to interact more and more on several issues on building construction starting from earth work to coloring. I ve just emphasized on drawing in my topic, but the basic mistakes most of the persons makes in dealing with people associated in their construction work. Its not wise to say your contractor that you are in hurry and you need to complete the building as soon as possible. Rather one should ask for a time frame before proceeding. Earth work is very important in building construction, which normally people skips. Lets see, if more and more people will be interested, i can proceed further. Thank you.
