I really hate people like that.
I have a friend of mine who is like that- she claims that she is also humble but whenever she has an accomplishment, she shouts it out to the world and always expects to be congratulated all the time. I think if one is successful, one should not brag all the time- and even be more humble..

Smug people will find that they will lose some of their freinds. I hope that if this person is a friend that they have other characteristics that do over ride the smugness. If this bothers you about her then I wouldn't congratulate her and would move away from this person. If she wonders why--tell her!

Yes, she does have some very good characteristics.. Her smugness is just a small defect. She is also quite generous and understanding.. She can be a really good friend when it is just the two of us. Which is why i just tolerate her attitude.

I hate smug people too. But I guess just to keep the peace, I just bite my tongue and move on. I don't even try to point it out even if the rest of the people around us are starting to get annoyed. I made the mistake once of trying to break it to a friend gently nad her smugness got the best of her. ANd threw me off.

AMEN!! If they are thinking they need to shout out all accomplishments to everyone all the time when they do something special, these are actually people that most of the time are lacking self esteem and respect and have to do this just to make themselves look and feel good. Many times when they do this everyone is like who cares, as if you did this they would say you are annoying, etc. even if it is something they would do themselves.

I hate smug people as well. Some of the smug people that I have met are so up them self that all they can think is of them self and nothing that is going on around them.
I try to avoid people that are constantly smug as they seem to be the most selfish people that are out there and I find that it gets my back up, to the point of telling them what I really think of them.

Although in my case, it is hard to avoid that person. Since she is my close friend, and we are together in all our subjects. So i just tolerate her, and smile at her comments about herself.. If is say some stuff- i might hurt her.
And i hate having quarrels with people- i just want peace.

That's true! We should rejoice and be grateful for the success of others. But if we hear it from the person himself, it kinda puts us off.

YEah, especially if it is almost all the time.. She is smart, i accept that. But it would be nice if she is also humble. What pisses me off, is she also says some stuff about one of our classmates about being smug...
Sometimes i am tempted to say the same thin to her..
