I think I will get my daughter a children's suitcase which is small and easy to pull along plus a small day pack. Then I can have a small backpack on my back. In addition I can probably fit two bags on the back of my son's wheelchair.
We are planning on travel by train and will hopefully book our tickets soon. I will make sure we take a limited amount of clothing. I know I will need to take a small toiletries bag plus my son's catheters. I will be likely to take some food that is vegan and some powdered soya drink. Funnily enough Ukraine only allows up to 50 Euros of food.
Which sorts of luggage do you like to take?
How do you make sure your baggage isn't too heavy or bulky?

Last time I travelled my husband and I had 4 bags: Two small bags that we used as hand luggage and a backpack and another bag that we checked in. Before we travel I go through my clothes and sometimes I find some old underwear or t-shirts that I want to throw out. Instead of throwing them out before the trip I bring them and throw them away when I have used them. I also try to bring books that I don't have to keep. In my own country I buy some very cheap books in second shops (less than $1 per book) and when I have read them I don't keep them. I give them away to another traveller or sell them in one of second hand book shops that I pass during my trip. Sometimes I also buy second hand magazines and tear out the articles that I want to read. When I have read the articles I throw them away.

I guess you also have to know what sort of weather conditions you will be expecting when you get to the Ukraine, obviously dependent on how hot or cold it will be you will have to take the necessary clothing. It can be hard especially if you are travelling in the UK, as you know our weather is very unpredictable even in the Summer months. Versatile clothing which can be worn both hot and cold climates. I guess if you have the essentials, anything else you may need whilst away can at least be bought while you are there. It's only medication that you have to make sure you have ample supply of as they cannot be bought in a foreign country if they are on prescription.

This is a good idea. You can teach the children how to be independent since they are little. They can know how to pack their bags and prepare for the necessary things when they have a travel. In the past I liked backpacks. Now I also like to have the luggage with wheels so that it will be much more convenient to carry when I need to put many things inside which are heavy.

I usually take 1 suitcase per person. If I travel by plane then will also take 1 carry on per person if not usually only my gd will have a travel bag for her portable dvd player and her travel game system.

I've learned my lesson and will try to look for luggages appropriately sized!
The last trip we did last Christmas, I used our ovesized luggage to store all of our stuff. I thought that it would be much easier to have it all in one bag instead of lots of smaller ones. I was charged an extra $32 because it was over the weight limit.
I think I'd get one for my 12 year old which he could carry or drag along.

I haven't had the chance to go anywhere in a while.
The last time that we did actual traveling, it was to move back to the North after spending a year in Florida.
I keep thinking that it would be nice to take off to Norway for a bit, though. I love the landscape, and the local food is wonderful. I'm all about enjoying local foods.
