Some days feathers...

We've had a couple of pretty bad weeks here at the Lion's Den.
First, I was suspecting that my dishwasher was on its last legs, and Sears has given me no satisfaction with fixing the darn thing. But THEN one of my little fridges, one I got to keep drinks in, died, taking out the plug with it!
If you remember, last summer the range fried its mother board. Happily, it was a gas range, so even if we couldn't use the ignition to light the burners, we could still use a match. However, it left us using a toaster oven to bake with...
I got a new (used) range on freecycle that works perfectly - well, the clock doesn't work but big deal, all it does is tell time, we don't need that.
The roomie's nephew rolled the old range out the back door, but then we actually had some rain and didn't want to try and roll it through the mud to the front yard, so the range sat out there for over a month before it got hauled up front.
Then last week we put the little fridge out.
This weekend, the dishwasher went out, the nephew's next door neighbor had pulled a working dishwasher out of a lady's house because she had redone her kitchen and offered it to him. He snagged it for us.
We have 'scavengers' that drive around the neighborhoods and grab any metal they see for salvage, that was fine with me, they can HAVE those broken things!
Still, its been a tough little bit with things breaking down.
At least we have a strong young man to take these heavy things out for us and a handsome older guy who had replaced the fried plug (and the pantry light) last week in exchange for dinner and some left overs.
I hope this is the last thing to go for a while, even though we haven't replaced the little fridge and the oven and dishwasher were free, it is still a pain to have to be without these conveniences...
I know I haven't been around much, just finished reading "Out of Oz" the 4th book in the Wicked series.

It always seems that once one thing goes everything does. You are lucky that you have people to help you and someone to fix things for you for free (I guess dinner isn't really free though).

Just switching things in and out can be a pain, I know. So far stuff for me has been free, but what really needs done will no way be free and will be time consuming as well once I have the money to buy the stuff needed. In addition to 'shopping' freecycle, we have what is called "the share shack" at our transfer station, recycle center. I have a gorgeous "new" light fixture in the downstairs bathroom, and then this Monday, we took the old light fixture, plus another one to the share shack and came back with a small LazyBoy recliner that looks brand new. Hubby found tags that say it was made in April of 1996, but it must have been sitting in a guest room or something. It is all mine now, or rather it is all mine and Tiger's. He has become like velcro since Creamery is gone. On the other hand, other than his drooling, this old kitty seems to be coming up with new lives. Two or three years of homemade cat food has made a difference in his health and he is filling out and his hair is nice and thick.Guess I am diverging, huh? Sorry to get off topic

He has become stuck to me, and expects treats when I come home from work after midnight. You cannot make an old cat new, and I was fearful for awhile that he would be lost without Creamery but he just transferred all of his attention to me and to Bob otherwise. I still would like to give him Benadryl for the drooling.

I had no idea that Wicked was a series! I just read the first book, a couple of years ago, and thought that that was the end of it although the ending left me wanting more of her story. Thanks for mentioning that, I'll check to see if my library has the rest of the books!
I don't even have a dishwasher. I had one since I was 33 then bought this old house and have been doing dishes by hand for five years. I don't mind not having one but they are so nice and so convenient!

Wow!! For you, it really seems like when it rains it pours, and lucky for you you have had ways to be able to find and get Newer appliances for the ones that break down. We were lucky enough to get a nicer refridgerator when having problems with ours from my husbands work, and were able to borrow a truck. Because when things break down without a warning you usually have no choice, but to look for something and hope for the Best.

Wow, talk about when it rains, it pours. What a time you had with all this. Good thing you DO have someone to help you get this stuff out of the house for you, otherwise, you'd probably have to hire someone..no fun.
I'm glad to hear it's all over right now. I live in an apartment so if anything breaks..not my problem, thank goodness.
You got good deals on these items and free to boot! Good for you!
I think this "Out Of Oz" is becoming a movie, isn't it?
