Hi all :)
I came upon this sentence in the anime 'Naruto'
"When did you forsake yourself?" It was asked by Gaara in the Kage meeting.
Sometimes i ask myself this same question. Do we really forsake ourselves in life? We do wrong things in life out of interest and later regret it.
Please share your views. It might help me.

if a person do something that is bad as this person is fully aware that it is "bad" then that is forsaking oneself. But if something bad happen brought about by a wrong decision or choice this is not forsaking this is just a bad choice or wrong decision. All our choices are right, that's why we choose it. Some factors may affect the "rightness" of our choice and it will turn out to be unfavorable one. So... in case I have forsaken myself... it was a product of a wrong choice or bad decision and not really intentional

hey, can I ask If Gaara knows Inuyasha? :)
I think that there is a right time to forsake ourselves, not only for a simple mistake but for that time we have a big reason for that. for me I never experience it before but im sure out of 250 thousand users here some of them may experience this kind of problem before.. I dont know who is it, but hopefully they see this post and share their experience..

The way I definite 'when did you forsake yourself' is when did you give up on yourself, give in to your dreams that you once had, was it because you felt that you weren't 'worthy' or 'strong enough' or 'capable' of accomplishing your dream, was it because others told you that you wouldn't make it, wouldn't succeed in life? Sometimes we have negative people in our lives, they can be family, friends or even loved ones who tell us repeatedly that we are no good and so we believe them and we forsake our dreams because of this.

Forsake myself? Maybe a few times I have done that to myself. But we can all manage to get back on track and regain our strength with proper help from the right people and with the right mind set. We have to be strong no matter what.

Yes that's how to live our life. If we don't realize our mistakes then there's no chance of learning from them. Thanks Aja.

Have you done something wrong and now you regret it? I don't expect an answer to that. But that's what your question sounds like. And in view of your previous discussion about love/hate, I wondered. I think the answer lies in Mavic's response. An example would be something I did in my early 30's. My partner at the time came home with a swimsuit issue calendar for his workshop in the basement. The girls on it were very beautiful. I took a black magic marker and made moustaches on them. Then I took an eraser and erased their eyes, so they looked like aliens with moustaches.
But I didn't regret doing it. hehehe So I didn't forsake myself. I suppose it was a wrong thing to do, but I have no regrets about it. Now, if I permanently damaged his car because I was mad at him for something, that would be an action I would regret. If you purposely did something to someone, forgive yourself and move on. Feeling bad is okay at first but don't dwell on it.

In my mind,I think the meaning of this saying from Gaara is that "when did you abandon your dream and ideal?"
And I think that in our society, many people will abandon their first dream when they are grown up and need to face the reality, and there are so much things we can not deal with in our society so we tend to become shrink.

I thought it meant forgive. Lol. But true, in this society,it's rare people get to live their first dream.Only rich people could do that. It's not right.

Well pardon me but it depends on what dream you try to live. If it's all about richness then perhaps only the riches might be able to do that. But if you talk about live with dignity, proud and selfless that could be achieved by almost anyone whether they are rich or not.
Back to topic, peoples tends to pity their self that's the main problem is. Somewhat you can't even begin to forgive others if you can't forgive your self. Think of a situation where you will found your self doing the regret of that if the person involved already in after life.
It's great to know that there are anime lovers out there who think this through, because nowadays many peoples who just does view the show as it is if you know what I mean.

We are human, we do wrong knowingly and unknowingly too, so when we know, we must try to rectify our mistakes; that makes us great.

We can rectify when we do mistakes unknowingly. But we can't when we do it knowingly.

nit, give the BR to Miss papaya thief. Her response is superb. She deserves it.
