Dylan and Phyllis

So Dylan and Phyllis knew each other when they were kids. Soaps are always such small worlds, another current case is Leslie and congressman wheeler. What I am wondering is why Dylan approached Phyllis unless he wanted to cause trouble between Phyllis and Avery. I guess he thinks that will cause problems between Avery and Nick.
