or so they say when mmda extended the 60kph speed limit in commonwealth avenue. when it started last year, the figures of accidents already dropped significantly, at least, according to the statistics released by their office. i do hope that this new ploy works. if the authorities do see a drop in accidents, they should think of having a speed limit all throughout commonwealth. also, the law should be strictly enforced and it should be enforced 24/7. that means getting more people with more equipment watching over the motorists using the highway. i know there are cons here but i do think that the pros far outweigh the cons. what say you my fellow mylotters? feel free to chime in. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Since last year, I think I have already seen this in the area. My Bf lives in fairview and he told me that there is a speed limit in commonwealth avenue . Whenever we go to their place, we would often chance upon some private cars being stopped in the middle of the highway by mmda officers, and even taxis, or buses that would exceed the speed limit. My bf said the fine is around 2 thousand pesos. As for the suggestion, maybe since there are technologies available, it could be more efficient to install cameras, similar to that of the US and would take a shot of the cars so to whom it was registered will have to see all the violations in their application for the registration of their cars which happen every year. This way, we can instill discipline in the people. This should work 24 hours 7 days a week. fewer people will maintain such and it will help save people as well(those who are there to catch the violators, remember these are speeding cars! But having this imposed, checking on the speed limit, i would say this is a good start.

The fine is really a whopping 2000 pesos but I guess this is fair enough to really discipline and make the motorists follow the speed limit. Having those advance technologies is a really good idea I just hope enough funds from our government could be set aside to focus more on this issue. Nothing could feel safer, if you're a commuter or someone who drives, than knowing traffic rules are STRICTLY implemented and that motorists are following traffic regulations to avoid/lessen freak accidents to happen.

It's just about time that they do that. Commonwealth avenue is huge a wide road and I no longer feel safe just walking even on the sidestreet! I grew up having to cross that road when going to school. The last time I crossed that street was in 2007 wherein I thought it was the last day of my life. The footbridge was located so far that I decided to cross the road (stupid me but I was really getting late for work!). So I decided to cross along with other people. And I guess it was so many years ago when I last crossed that road, that i really froze in the middle of the road. Buses were really speeding up. All I could remember was seeing my life in a flash and just pray to God that I'm all in His care. Just when I saw two buses approaching, they suddenly went on different directions leaving me in the middle as they passed by! What a relief! And I swore from that day, that would never ever cross any road as wide as that ever in my life!

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i am very much happy to know that the killer highway is slowly becoming people friendly and this is very important for the news of accidents and deaths r never pleasing for our ears. So the statistics on the decreasing trend of the accidents is a good indication that every thing has been brought under control and hope this continues. What say?
