Last Friday my doctor changed my sleep medication mostly at my request but she said she was going to do it anyway when I saw her. Things like this always seem to happen to me on the weekend when I can't do anything about it but I'm calling her today to see what I should do. First I tried what I thought she said Friday night and wasn't even feeling tired so a couple of hours later I took the other half and still no sleep! Saturday I just started with what it says on the rx on the bottle and still...no sleeep! I had things to do yesterday but after not sleeping for 2 days I was feeling horrible so I only got half of what I had to do done and have to finish today even though I'm still not 100% myself. I'm going to call her today to find out what she thinks I should do. I need to sleep!!! I haven't even been on my computer all weekend which is not me. Have you ever gone for days with no sleep? Do you take any medication to help you sleep?

I've had sleepless nights. Those were the times when I was going through some phase which really caused me to be thinking most of the time. And the other time was when I tried using a slimming pill without realizing that one of its composition was an "upper". I think I was a zombie for a week, then my body was able to get used to it.

Diet pills are notorious for being uppers. I tried them years ago and it was a horrible experience that I'll never try again. I got so bad that I had to go to er because my blood pressure went up so high. I'll never do that again

I was desperate to lose weight and I so I tried taking the pill. I didn't think that it would make me like a zombie. But I did lose weight, by about 10 lbs in a month.

WHAT?! 3 days of not sleeping?? I would die! I may not sleep for 24 hours but that's it. More than that hours I wouldn't be able to open my eyes. I never need anything to help me sleep as I can sleep anywhere anytime. But why do you need pills to help you sleep anyway?

I'm bi polar and if I don't take meds to sleep I will be up all night with my mind racing from one problem to the next and that's not good for me because I focus on negative things.

Omg! And because of this new medication you haven't slept at all! That's awful! But you've already got your previous medication back, haven't you? Hope you're feeling better now and have a very nice sleep!

I have slowly weened myself off of all meds. I do natural things to sleep, I use tapping and other breathing exercises to bring on sleep, it seems to work well though the tapping seems to work best for the first two hours of sleep. A body works best on habits, if you can regulate the time you eat, sleep and are awake most bodies work best.

I've tried everything you can think of to fall asleep and basically nothing works except the meds which my dr. just told me not to take the new ones so I'll go back to the old meds and hopefully sleep tonight.

Yes savy, I also feel that tapping and some exercise can put me to sleep. Maybe ctryhnny should try it.

I think other than medicine you also need to take a day off from your stressful work or any stressful activities..and try to live healthy .. healthy in the sense that you do exercise, eat healthy and nutritious food, stay in a peaceful and fresh place other than your usual place.. maybe your mind is so tired already and you mind needs refreshment and rest.. I am also like that. I work so hard and I am alone in my place so there were times that I cannot sleep..and many times that I had a short time sleep and i cant explain also why. Every time I was in that condition I took a leave from work and went home to my hometown and stay in the house of my parents , and there I can sleep very well..so try to take a vacation.

That's one of my problems I don't work and basically do nothing all day. I've been looking for a job for months and nothing yet. A vacation? That would be great but no way I could afford that!

I used to be an insomniac, I have days and night without sleep but it's ok with me because I was still young then. Now I'm getting old,it's not ok for me so if I feel not sleepy I find things to do. I even exercise and stretch out my muscles in the middle of the night. Maybe you should try this too before going to bed or to make it fun try zumba.

Yeah, there are Zumba exercises on my cable that I could do every night and think I'm going to check it out tonight. I hope it works.

You don't need any medication to sleep, all you need is to work to get good sleep. There was a time when I did not had sleep for weeks, but that time I was free to do nothing and just entertainment, good sleep will come when body will get good work.

I've been looking for a job for months and not getting anywhere. My dr. agrees I should find something to do during the day but there's nothing around here for me to do. Today will be a busy day since I went food shopping at 7am, then to the food pantry and now I'm trying to get laundry together to do that. So, hopefully it will be enough to make me extra tired tonight.

You have to continue with some chores to make you have well physical work, this will bring good sleep.

when i first got my CPAP, (its a breathing machine that pushes air into your lungs while you sleep), i had about 4 days sort of like that. i went to bed like normal but no sleep until 3 am for 4 days with having to get up at 6 for those days. hope you get some sleep! i did take melatonin but i actually take some more serious medication now which my doctor prescribed.

Wow....you use the CPAP? I've heard of it but so far thank God I don't need it. So far my breathing isn't a problem but I do take medication for asthma and copd.

No, I don't take medications. If I cannot go to sleep immediately, I simply stay up and work on stuff until I am ready to sleep--whether that be 1 a.m. or 3 a.m. I know that sleep will eventually come; I just need to shift my focus off it. I would suggest a cup of chamomile tea to help calm and relax you. I have used it in the past. These days, however, I just take advantage of the sleeplessness and use those extra few hours to catch up on some things.

I have nothing but time so I don't know what I would do at night. On a regular day I have things done before noon.

I had a lot of trouble in my yearly 20's with insomnia so feel for you. Sleep deprivation can be a serious issue. It came to the point that could never relax. Couldn't shut off my head. There was a yogo routine that started, it was called a PM excercise to relax your mind and your body. It didn't work the first week, but eventually got the hang of it and it did start to help. There are still some nights when stressed out that can't sleep but then find the most boring book in the world and dim the lights and I'm out after a few paragraphs. I sincerely hope you find answers. I used to get flax from my family about my sleeping patterns but they just never understood what a serious problem it actually is.

I think everyones sleep pattern is different. What works for you might not work for me and vice versa. I talked to my dr so I should be all set and get some sleep.

Hey give yourself some rest that's bad for your health. I hope you get well soon.

I'm sorry to hear that. Now more than anything, you need to sleep, as during that time is when the body repairs itself. I hope your doctor gets to help you and figure something out. I think I have experienced not sleeping for 2 days during the board exams, well, I think I did manage to get about 4 hours total of sleep in 2 days but I know that isn't any better. I finally realize when on the third day my mind cannot function properly that I have to get proper sleep if ever I hope to be any good during the next tests.

I think especially when you are going to school and studying for tests you need to get a lot of sleep. I know I can't think when my body is too tired.

I called her voice mail this morning and she returned my call within an hour! For now we're going back to the old medication just so I can get some sleep. I'm going to see her next week to talk about what to do since she thinks I need a med change.
