I needed to go pick up some medicine for my sinus infection, so after eating and messing around in the kitchen for a bit while the roomie cut up mangoes that she bought by mistake, we headed out. The street out of my neighborhood goes east/west, and we turned west. In the bright sky after the sun had set were two, count them, two things that could've been the comet. I suspect the lower, dimmer one was actually the comet, but I have no idea what the other one was. It looked just like the other one, only higher in the sky and much brighter with a longer tail. None the less, this is the FIRST comet I've seen with my bare eyes! The other ones I've seen, Haley's and Hale-Bopp were both big disappointments for me. Maybe because my eye sight was so nearsighted when they showed up that I needed a telescope to see them? Still, this was exciting for me! Have you seen this comet?

Star Trek got me interested in all things extraterrestrial, and comets are pretty far travelers to been seen from Earth.

I didn't see the one you did. But one of my good memories of my mom, it has to be more than ten years ago, when I was living with my parents. A comet was due to come by around 4am. I was up, and my parents woke up early that morning too. We drove a couple of miles away where there were no obstructions and we could just see open sky everywhere. And then we saw on the hood of the car and watched the comet go by.

Comets don't actually move that fast, I mean, astronomically they do, but from our terrestrial perspective, they don't. Still, I was happy to actually see one with my bare eyes!

Hello ElicBxn, I haven't seen a comet but congratulations to you that you have finally seen one and it's rare for me to see because we are blocked by clouds at night most of the time when ever there is a report of a comet. the only thing i got lucky enough to see as an atrological event was the solar eclypse.

Have NEVER in my life Comet nor falling star, I have never seen them since I was born. Am I the only one? I am so excited to see falling star or comet, they say when you wish upon them your dream will come true, I don't believe it but I am still excited to see one not on TV but with my bare eyes.

That's a shame since the comet is currently leaving the Southern Hemisphere's skies. You might try getting out at sunset and looking north west. I'm a sky watcher. I used to watch clouds, still do if I have nothing else to do and have to be laying down near a window. I've seen many shooting (falling) stars. I used to go out in August during the Perseids. These days its hard to find a dark enough place to go watch them since Austin has gotten so large.
