Does religion teach people to depend on God? Does this keep people from being able to stand on their own two feet? Are religious people praying for God to solve every one of their problems??
What do you suppose God wants?? Parents want their children to be strong, able to stand on their own two feet and solve their problems. Isn't it reasonable that God wants this as well?
Does God really want all His kids hanging on Him begging to have it made???
Religion wants you dependent on them. With that they get you dependent. What happened to God's children who, through lessons, become smart, intelligent, strong and capable of standing up to overcome the problems and adversity that create the wisdom on our journey?? The choices are ours in spite of what others are doing.
Let's show God what we can do. Bring Results. The tap dancing really gets one nowhere.

I guess that your ecperience of religious people has not been too good. God tells us to trust him, to learn from Him,to share His life but dependance of the kind you describe is not Christian. I can't say about other religions.
If people are religiously superstitious then they might as well just touch wood or throw salt over their shoulder, whatever their culture suggests. Christians are not into religion, they are into a relationship with their God and Saviour. There is a huge differnce.

I truly am "nothing without God" I totally trust him in everything and always ask for his guidance, this gives you strength not weakness.

Yes, there should be no middleman between God and His children. God does hold great wisdom. That kind of wisdom is always good guidance. On the other hand, one should be willing to solve their own problems without running for help on every little thing.
Chasing after God for every little thing is more widespread than you can imagine for believers. I know one person who was praying please let my team win the game.

You depend on things everyday......Children depend on their parents for all kinds of things. It is not a bad thing.....We depend on God in the same way. Without God, we would die. With God, we continue to live. God is our Creator and the sustainor of life through His Son Jesus Christ.
This world puts us through all kinds of trials and tribulations...Yes i depend on God to help get me through them.
God teaches us to Depend on Him...
You make it sound like a Bad thing to depend on God..
In the last days the scriptures indicate people will speak with forked tongue. Darkness would be called light and evil good and good evil.
Nothing has happened to God's children....The wrong in this world is being created by the ones that have not become A child of God yet.But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
The fear of God is what brings wisdom....With out it you have none...
I do not belong to a religion....I belong to God....My life belongs to God...
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Turn your life over to Jesus Christ.
My choice is God.......My dependence on God is what gives me the strength to stand on my own two feet....My dependence on God gives me the wisdom to understand his word. The only thing god wants for us is to believe, trust and to follow him.
In your Journey you have not discovered the true meaning of God yet. Keep searching
You think that you can do it on your own....I do it by depending on God, believing in Him, And following the path that he has laid out for me....

your quote;God teaches us to Depend on Him My Answer: God doesn't teach you this. It's your religion.
your quote;I do not belong to a religion....I belong to God. My Answer: I do not believe you. Your beliefs seem to be all for you. I do not believe you would give them up for even God. You would just say God was the devil if God asked you to give up those beliefs. Maybe, one day, God will test you. I think that would be a very good move regardless of the outcome.
your quote; In your Journey you have not discovered the true meaning of God yet My Answer: Meaning of God??? I thought you knew. God is actually Someone. Now, I do have a very good grasp on God's system, what God is doing with this planet and His children. Further, I understand how God thinks. Yes, I work at being like God. I work at Understanding. We must widen our views to see what God sees. Work on that. It is a good direction for you.
your quote;.But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, My Answer: WE are all children of God. There is no special club that makes some children better than others. God loves all His children equally and specially. It is wrong to teach others that they aren't just as special to God.

Tell that to Fred Astaire!
Sorry I couldn't resist! I think you have it backwards. G-d is there for those who are trying to do it All on their own but can't make it. He is their sole support. They turn to religion help Not to do Everything for them. It is the spoiled and mostly the middle class who see G-d as some sort of Santa Claus or ATM machine!

Yes, Fred had the talent. This discussion is general and I do not want to place labels and boxes to put people in. You are right. There are many people who do not ask God to fix every little thing.
Interesting? So you think it's only the middle class who see God as Santa or an ATM machine. Maybe the middle class is religion's focus group. Further investigating will prove interesting no doubt.

Think about it. The poor Need G-d to help them survive The rich, they already have money and don't have to turn to G-d daily. but the middle class want to keep up with the Jones and get more than they Really need.

Hi bird: Of course, it could be a good tool to make people dependent or to liberate us. As one of my teachers said, I don't think having a religion is bad. You can join whatever religion or belief you want. The only thing that is unacceptable for me is that people become the puppets of their religious or political leaders. Being part of a religion shouldn't mean that you can't think independently, to discuss and sometimes have your own point of view that differs from the rest.

Yes, Indeed! It's the puppets, the brainwashing, the blind accepting, and teaching people they shouldn't question is what I am against. Just like you say, we are all meant to THINK. God has never wanted his children as thoughtless, following, unquestioning, souls dependent on others. We are all meant to Think and stand on our own two feet. Our view is needed by everyone around us. If we do not think for ourselves, how can we share that which is Special about each of us? We couldn't.

The people must know the difference between putting trust and dependency , the first is required in the sense that the human work in order to get the things enough to his need from food, clothes , etc . the second is not required , in the sense that a man should not depend on the living would remain seated when his home without a sought in order to get this living , God asked us to strive for a living and not to dependency .
For problems which facing the man in his life , he must work to resolve them, and resorting to God to help him solve big problems that he could not be resolved by himself , God wants to man all the best, but the self is inclined towards evil driven away from his Creator , and committing sin.

I was seeing real wisdom in your comment until the end. Your quote: but the self is inclined towards evil driven away from his Creator , and committing sin. My Answer: Do not allow religion to corrupt your view. See the Goodness and nurture that. Watch that change the world around you.
Once people discover all sides to evil, it will no longer be a valid choice. Intelligence will make the right choices. All God's children walk toward God regardless of their choices. On the other hand, some kiddies are walking much faster than others. Still, God places no time limit on learning.

Satan does not exist except in stories. Does one really need stories to create someone to Blame for one's choices?? Hardly. Lose the stories and the blame. As for self, self is an important part of a person. It is not something evil. God realizes His children will make bad choices from time to time just to discover what those bad choices really mean. In other words, part of the Learning experience includes a few bad choices. We are to work at Fixing the problems instead of merely condemning them.

Hi,
There are many religions in the world. They are but eternal phases of one eternal religion. There are various opinions and various minds. The actions that we must adopt for the permanent avoidance of pain and realization of bliss or God are calles religion. Religion does not make people dependent. Everyone is free to follow any religion. Or don't follow any religion. No one can force anyone.

Going by what God has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you," I would say that God Himself wants us to know He is there for us. I don't mean like a genie in a bottle granting our every wish, but as a father providing for his children. He has even said He will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory.
Does this knowledge take away our ability to stand on our own to feet? No, because God is aware that one of our needs is to be able to do for ourselves. Therefore, He has given us those abilities. It was always God's plan that man should work. As it says in the second chapter of Genesis verse 16, "The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it." God provided a garden for man, but man was to work it.
God proved He would never forsake us by sending His Son Jesus as a sacrifice to pay for our sins because we are not able to pay the price ourselves. This is were dependence on God is truly necessary.
It's not religion we depend on but the truth of God's word. We know the truth by the evidence we see around us. It's good to know that we are capable of doing for ourselves, but it's nicer to know that when we need God, He will never leave us nor forsake us.

We need to strike a balance. We should do all we can and ask God to bless our efforts and when there is nothing more we can do, let God do what only he can do.

Hi bird. yes that is right about some of them. The last church that I've attended, they were very vocal that we should lay everything in Gods hands. Its a little confusing when they also say "God helps those who help themselves".

They include the God helps those who help themselves to cover when that dependent person doesn't get help. They still want you dependent because if you do not need them, they loose their followers.
God sees all anyway. God would be more than happy to help those not crying for help at every little thing. Does any parent want their kids crying all the time? Of course not. WE want our children strong, and capable. God works toward that goal with the lessons and challenges He brings to our lives. One should not always be so willing for it all to go away. Wisdom comes through the solving and overcoming of problems.

Hi friend, i don't think religion make us dependent, it is our own wish to follow a religion or not, as well as following the religious quotes is also our own wish, no one have the ability to force us to do it. We all are independent and have the ability to think and do our work as per our wish.

Well, that is the way it's supposed to be, however doesn't religion push that you can only get to God through them in some way or form?? Don't they also try to make the rules concerning God? Mankind is a controlling lot.
God doesn't place restrictions on His access. That is mankind. Further, doesn't this idea one must go through them create a dependent thinking that is not healthy?

God said according to the bible prayer really works no matter how hardworker we are if God don't allow it He wouldn't for success still comes from Him nothing is impossible with Him.God didn't said for us not to work for he said that its a sin to be a lazy. and we must be a hardworker.GOd has the mercy but we must work hard for it for hardworker people are the one who will be rewarded by Him hardworking to make a daily living a hardworking to follow all His commandment. We are made by Him He only says ask and you shall receive. Devils do tell us and always wanted us to be fail but if we work hard and He know that it will make us good just pray and ask Him and He will help you to get this. for there were evil here on earth which is the hindrance and give us problem . and God always save His people.

God has given us brain to think, to do so many things, and freedom and accepting responcibility. we do what we want and we like, in some situation, which is out of our control we pray and rest in God to help us, we do not hanging on him or not even leaving standing on ourself. we need God all the time, and he is the only one who does not need anything. we need to remember him to thanks to him, to not forget who and what we are.
we do our best, and finally rest in God as he is the most wise one in the world who knows what is better for us or what is bad for us.

You bring up an interesting thought. I wonder how many are praying to God for something that would be bad for them?? I know lots of people praying to win that multimillion dollar lottery. Having multiple millions does seem great but in reality, it would ruin people who could not deal with it. It's tough enough to get people off the couch now. If they didn't have to even work, they would never get up.
