This sounds very ordinary and unimportant. But it is not. When we buy a product or pay for a service, the price we pay already includes the tax. Under the law, the seller is required to remit to the tax to the government. But if the seller does not issue an official receipt when you bu a product perhaps because you did not ask for it or worse you asked and said never mind. Since you did not ask for an OR there is no record of sale transaction and therefore the government has no way knowing it. In short, the tax that you already paid for the product will just be pocketed by the seller.

Hey kixsh, i do understand that the tax might be pocketed by teh seller. On the other hand, some business does not charge the consumer tax as in they are absorbed by the seller. How do you think we should account if that is the case?

I am confused with what you've said. I think all of the stuffs that are sold in the stores must be bounded to taxes and that tax are include in the price. So when they sell it to the buying public they should in return pay taxes to the government. That is a responsibility that every businesman should abide.

Too true unfortunately. Recently I bought a jumper but was charged slightly less for it than on the label. When I pointed this out the man said it was a special discount if I did not require a receipt! I said I did and he charged me the full rate. The difference in price did not compare with the VAT he would have paid if he had declared the sale. He was making a good profit out of everything he sold to customers who were willing to join the deception for the sake of a couple of euros...

I also know of the shops or stores here in our place, they do the same. And yes, they are making lots of money out of it. I don't agree woth it at times because this kind of doing is a kind of deception, and this in any rate is not helping our country or government. Hope regulations will get stricter on this kind of doing.

by law all businessmen are required to issue official receipts for their sales. if they do not, this is a violation and you can report them to the authorities. you're right, the taxes are usually included in the computation when the businessman prices his goods. if you don't have an OR, the tax that he's supposed to remit to the government goes in his pocket.
