I just had an operation for acute cholecystitis, don't get me wrong I don't hate hospitals but I have to stay here for ten days, at first I think its going to be ok I could also get a rest from work. but its getting into me now, Gosh I am so bored, its a good thing I have my ipad and I could use the internet, i feel like i'm throwing my time lying in here and doing nothing, i am recovering now and i think i could continue resting at home but my doctor won't allow me. hmmmm i just miss home theres no way you could feel more comfortable than being in your own house.

I had a similar situation where my sister had goitor and recommended for an operation. She was there in the hospital for 15-20 days and I was the only person to assist as we are in the city and no one could reach the place from the village, as it was so remote. She had given the date for 12-13 days of her admission to hospital and the dates were getting postponed. I asked the main surgen to get a discharge as it went on for 2 weeks and more. Finally she said that her body conditions to get fitted for the operation and we are waiting for a best time and they used to handle 2-3 opearations in a day and in my sister's case, if you require, you can get discharged and go to somewhere else. But we give her the best care and protection if we want to do it. Anyway, we waited for 2-3 days more and got operated successfully. So, as you said, it is a painful life in hospital for long time. I had to witness 2 deaths of young girls who got 85% burns as they tried to suiside.

Yes, I can visualise those days so clearly, though it happende around 12-13 years ago. It is a huge hospital and having 3000 adimitted persons were treating and that many OPDs also handled. The wards were always full and filled with patients and depending on the nature of illness, they were categorised and her ward was just near the burns and accidents. That was the main reason why she want to go home as early as possible. She was not married and just 23 years old at that time. I will tell you one incident of that day. As it was a medical colledge, she was taken to the students to explain about the operation to the medical students. Even after 3-4 days, my sister could not speak or open the mouth properly. Another doctor come for visit along with 7-8 students and she was talking about my sister. The doctor (not the doctor who did the operation) and the visiting doctor explained that this patient got operated for goitor and while doing the operation one vain got cut mistakenly and now she never can speak! They though my sister cannot understand what they talk and immediately my sister got violent and angry and made a lot of mess around there and I become so panic. Immediately she got up alog with the wires and all accessories and gone to the main doctor who made the operation. Luckly she was there in her cabin. I followed her and I discussed the situation to the main doctor. Soon, both the doctors had a hot argument and her doctor said that she is absolutely fine and good and she can speak a week later and can talk so well sooner. The main doctor fired the other one and talked to the students that NEVER talk anything like such COMMENTS, especially infron of the patients while they are recovering or immediately after the treatment. Anyway, as she said, the started speaking after 5 days and she left the hospital fully recovered and absolutely fine. Now it is 15 years completed and she have the goitor again. Probabily she need to go for another opeation in this year and she getting ready for the same after 2-3 months now.

omg thats terrible what if your sister actually lose her voice! what are they going to do! i mean firing them cant bring back everything! sharing your experience.. on this operation of mine too, the nurse actually injected the wrong medicine on me, i was suppose to put into sleep and what happened after she injected it is i couldn't breathe properly i even feel like my heart beat stopped, but i can still hear whats happening around me although i couldn't move. the doctor was not yet in the room they are still preparing me for the operation. i heard the other nurse saying that she almost killed me. so right after i wake up. i cried a lot and i told my doctor and my husband what happened, they were all surprised and angry, the nurse already said sorry to me, but i don't think my mother in law will accept just sorry. my husband and my brother in law are very angry and they are now thinking what legal action could be done.

oh i did another post before what is acute cholescystitis.. it mainly a problem on your gall stones that is affecting your bile, so its hard to digest the food you ate. omg its so painful, the doctor even asked me how i manage to ease the pain, well i was busy at work i thought it was just a regular stomach ache but it keeps coming back and its getting worst and worst. i could really explain how painful it is, even the operation was painful too.. but its ok.its over for me now. so its so much better if you can stay away from eating oily foods.

The longest time I have stayed in a hospital is 21 days for my operation of acute appendicitis. The operation was small but the doctors put me on a hold for days because I have mitral valve prolapse and they thought it would create complications with anesthesia.Later on after some tests they came to a conclusion that it was not so serious and would not cause any trouble during the operation. But before that for 4 days they kept telling me that tomorrow you will be operated so don't eat anything today and just drink water.I was already a thin guy and this delay made me lose 5kgs.

me too.. before my operation they told me not to eat even drink water, and even after the operation so its a total of two days without taking anything aside from the dextrose. its also painful after the operation, i just think that these will be last after these no more stomach pain for me anymore!

I did a minor operation before, it didn't require me to stay in the hospital. The longest time I stayed in the hospital was when I gave birth, it's 5 days. It was my second labor, my eldest son and my husband were staying together with me in the hospital. Hence, I was not bored at all. Though my husband and my son went home in the day time, I was still busy nursing my baby, and busy finding time to sleep and rest too. I agree with you it's much more comfortable staying at home. Hope you'll recover very soon.

I had to spend 7 days in a hospital when i was 14 because of my asthma. I got a very bad cold and cough that became almost deadly because of my asthma. I got transferred to the hospital in an ambulance it was that bad. The whole ordeal was just crazy, and everyday they would tell my parents and me that i could go home the next day probably, but then the next day would come and they would decide i wasn't well enough yet. It was the worst week of my life, i felt horrible, had all these machines hooked up to me, had to have breathing treatments every few hours, I barely slept. It was just a nightmare.... and that is why I like most people hate and dread hospitals.

Just try to relax now and it is much better that the doctors should keep you there for awhile just to be sure. In a day or two you'd be able to come home.

The longest I had to stay in hospital was for 2 nights and 1 day when I had my appendix removed. When I got out of hospital it felt like the surgical wound was going to open up(the painkillers were no help at all), then after that I had to stay home for more than two weeks.
• South Korea
10 Apr 13
aww i could imagine the pain, after the surgery i feel like my wounds are going to open whenever i move its getting better and better though well i have four kinds of injection three time a day. so if it wont kill the pain i might go crazy because injection is painful too.you know.

The longest I have had to stay in the hospital was 7 days. It was when I was 8 years old, I had a seizure. They ran tons of tests on me because it was a different kind of seizure I had than the regular ones. So, I was 8 years old, scared out of my mind, miserable and getting stabbed with tons of needles on a daily basis! It was horrible.

aside from the scene in the hospital i also hate injections, arrgghhh one is okay but if they doing it on a daily basis, for sure its tiring, my arms are still sore from injections but they still keep injecting me, arrghh hate it. at least in your case it was a long time ago. hope we are not going to comeback again.

Hi, I don't have to stay for a long time in a hospital. I have to stay for two days when my hand was fractured. I felt very boar at that time. But 10 days stay in the hospital is very irritating. I have another experience of going to hospital for my sister's husband. He had bye pass surgery and so I had to stay in the hospital for 10 days to help my sister. at that time we had tension of operation. Those days were very hard for us.

Just lie back and enjoy the rest you'll get. Think yourself lucky that you have your ipad and the internet, without those the stay would seem a lot worse. When I was 19, I had a motorcycle accident and was in hospital for over 4 months. Worse than that, I was litterally tied to the bed for 3 months and then had to learn to walk again. And that was in the 1970's when there were no ipads or internet. I was totally cut off from my friends except at visiting times and only had a radio, some books and my fellow sufferers for company (except for the wonderful nurses) 10 days should be easy for you to do, just think how much worse it could be. But whatever you do, just get better again quickly.
• South Korea

omg four months is very long, glad you learned to walk again, yeah i know i should be thankful because one of the disadvantage working here in korea is you cannot really have a leave whenever you want except if you work in a government it is so easy for them to fire and hire a worker, so even though you have a fever you still have to go to work. I should actually be happy because finally I can have a rest time and sleep till i like. hmmm i guess i just really have to try to be comfortable here.

Hi! I'm quite healthy and perhaps very careful so the first and last time I have been confined in a hospital is when I delivered my first daughter. It was a normal birth and the time was afternoon so I was advised to stay for the night be go home the next day. So that was just for almost 20 hours, hehe! But I did stay for days in hospitals. That was when my brother has typhoid fever and my mother had delivered her youngest child. I guess it was 2-3 days only? But I loved the private rooms because of the TV, aircondition and even the food is best when you're in a private hospital room. Hehe!

of course everything could be lovely with a little bit of more pay... ahaha but i know what you mean you could really see the difference between ordinary rooms and the private ones. lucky you, you didn't have a hard time giving birth and i think even though you have to stay there you wont be bored because your baby will keep you busy for sure.
