Keep Your Bicycles Off The Sidewalk!!!

A sure sign of Spring around here, is maniacs on bikes ripping up and down the sidewalks. There are signs posted everywhere stating that it is illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk. I spend a great amount of time standing at bus stops, and on occasion get hit by these speeding a-holes. A few of them actually have the nerve to tell ME to watch out. Excuse me? I'm on my feet!!! I am being completely legal standing at the bus stop. Once I even had someone try and shove me out of the way, as I was trying to turn into the walk-way going up to my apartment. It's amazing what a metal spike on a white cane can do to a tire! LOL The "no wheels" rule applies to skateboards, and roller-blades too, by the way. It's called a side-walk, not a side-wheel. Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, this happens in Hamilton, too. Sometimes I wish I could "inadvertently" knock them off their wheels. Would probably be easy to do if I used a quad cane and had eyes in the back of my head...

oh myh G I once inadvertantly did just that with my real quad cane and a kid on a skate board rushing right at me so I somehow got that cane out in front and he ran into it, The skateboard went one way and he went the other and I tried to help him up but he was too angry so left him to it.I really got a dressing down in some sort of street talk which all I could make out was the f word with mother attached. The elderly man sitting n front of Gold Crest clapped and oh my was I embarrassed. I had not wanted to hurt anyone but he almost knocked me down rushing
towards me like that, I had just started to take a short walk .I was 84 at the time

We probably have the same problem, but not as extensively as you do. For one thing, not so many people go anywhere without their car. We have signs painted on the sidewalk downtown, but I do not know haw many actually use them as intended. I am sorry that this happens to you, and I find the comment about the spikey cane hilarious.

oh lord,do we.it's illegal, but the lazy cops don't get off their butts and enforce it.
to make it worse, now the recent immigrants from mexico are doing it too.
i've never been to mexico, but i'd be willing to bet it's illegal there also.
but they see everyone else do it,so they follow suit.
between that and the power mom superstrollers, there's almost no room to walk anymore.

hi d anish canadain second time for making this same response gremlin ate my first one now copy I do not have as bad a vision problem as y ou but I have a bad left leg in a heavy brace so Its hard for me to dodge fast moving bikes that zip alongon the sidewalk.
One young woman on a bike crowded me and actually ran into m yright leg below the knee and the pain knocked me to the ground. I had one hell of a time trying to get to my feet. She had to finally actuall lift me to myhfeet. I had a big fat bruise and swelling just below my right knee. She just calmly got back on her b ike and zipped back down the sidewalk. A police car stopped and the lady officer asked me if I was okay. Then she took off after the young woman on the bike, I did not stay to see what happened next as I was on my way to college. At that time i was in my fourties but had that bad leg gr a lon g time which was a real handicap as I could not move with agility..

We don't have that many bike riders, and the ones we do have, for the most part, stay on the street.

I see people all the time riding, their bicycles on the side walk, and the police does nothing about it,I even see the old people riding their bike in the street which they are suppose to do, now I don't think these people on motor wheelchair are suppose to be, riding in the street they will get hit, they are suppose to be on the side walk, I saw a old man the other day in the street, with his wheel chair and he didn't know which way, he wanted to go, and cars had to wait until he, got out of the way so they wouldn't hit him.
