So Comcast came out to my house today to see why I have no tv, internet or phone service. The nice guys who repaved the road apparently cut the wires and didn't tell anybody. So Comcast has to report it to the city, and I have to wait until they come out, survey things, and then send another crew to dig up the new road and lay new cable.
I KNEW it was the darn road work.
My kids have homework they have to do online, and I pay bills online. Guess I'm going to head over to Best Buy and pick me up a pay as you go wireless internet device tonight.

That was my FIRST thought when you originally mentioned the paving and losing digital contact almost simultaneously -- that the road crew cut the cables. I almost commented then, but thought "Nah...".
Most utilities have to be X number of feet underground, but TV/internet companies are notorious for barely running their cable under the surface. I'm not even sure Miss Utlity marks them!

That's what I thought too. not sure about the depth, but the cable guy did say the road crews are supposed to alert the utilities when they repave, and the utilties will come out and make sure new lines are laid, if necessary. BEFORE the paving is done. lol

@@LaDeBoheme They are not running temp lines. They called the county and reported the problem, and now we have to wait. Bla.

Calling Miss Utility or 811 before any kind of excavation is the law in VA and I'm assuming in most states.
Although, it's a moot point in your case now. Hopefully, Comcast will run temp lines to get everyone reconnected ASAP while they figure out who is going to pay for the damage.

That really stinks. I hope it doesn't take too long for them to repair it!
