There are peacocks and doves where I work part time. I so love them but their poop is a nightmare!

Well when I was a small child, my Mother would lift me up to the window and we would watch the birds. I never got out of that habit. To this day my Mom feeds them she is 87. I love the birdeens too. :) I watch them over here off my balcony in these apts and they sit on a corner directly across from me every day.

We set up a bird feeder outside the cat porch, but discovered the cats liked the squirrels better. My mom got into hummingbirds when she had the condo in Colorado. They really are little winged jewels.

@Rosekitty like the second year I lived in this house, I was on my back porch and a hummingbird came and hovered right in front of me, only about 2 feet away. Don't know why, I didn't then, or now, have a feeder, but it was interesting...

@Rosekitty I have many mated couples (birds!) that come back year after year. It has gotten to the point now that they are so used to me, they no longer fly away when I'm working in my gardens. One Red Robin sits on the top of my arbor every morning and serenades me! I love it.

We have some lines above our reddish fence in the back yard. The birds hang out on the lines and drop their "gifts" down below. So we have a fence with lovely "icing" on top!

I'd love to have a birdbath, a real birdbath. I've had makeshift ones I've put together, but never a real one. I've never had a bird feeder, either, since I have lots of plants that supply what birds like to eat, and our weather is temperate here. I do like to watch and listen to my feathered friends, though. I just wish I were better at recognizing them so I could call them all by their proper names.

@Rosekitty I can recognize blue jays, blackbirds, pigeons, crows, turkey vultures, and hummingbirds. It's all the small songbirds I can't tell apart -- birds with no really distinctive colors. Birds move so fast I can't really use field guides and such to find them. It often requires a close look at the beak or tail or legs or wings. I can also recognize many of the water birds like ducks, geese, herons, etc.

My garden is designed to attract birds with plenty of fruit trees, lush greenery and a birdbath. I have several of them visiting and frolicking in the bath.
