Out. Of. Shape

August 9, 2015 8:54pm CST
Holy smokes am I out of shape. I used to think I was out of shape. I used to be wrong. Because after being pregnant and having a baby 4 weeks ago, I realize now that I am significantly out of shape. Yes, I'm still carrying around 15 extra pounds, and yes I'd like them to go, but WOW, I can't even move. We had softball tonight and I decided I could play. I mean it's rec league softball and I haven't got to play all summer. The first time I was up to bat I walked, so I meandered my way to first base. The next guy hit the ball and I took off running to second base. Sort of. Except not. It was like I was running through MUD. My brain was saying run, my legs were saying OH HECK NO! So NOW I can say without a shadow of a doubt. I am out of shape. Incredibly. This could be a long journey back to normal.

Well, it does take a bit more than 4 weeks for our bodies to get back to our pre-pregnancy levels.. some of us never get back. But I notice that it doesn't take long once we become active again. I stopped working out for a couple years and it only took me a matter of weeks to be able to run 5 miles again.

Hee hee - my last one came over 5 years ago - and I still feel it! I think the body is different after going through a pregnancy(ies) - and then as we get older it's harder to get back into shape unless we are really, truly disciplined (and it's so hard to find the time when we are juggling other kids too!). But it's doable. Imagine that I told my kids I could still do a cartwheel (and I can) but oh geez my arms feel the weight of my entire body - eek - it never was that way before!

Whew, I felt totally 'back to normal' until I tried to do that. Crazy

I have to agree with @much2say age and each pregnancy takes a toll on our bodies. After six boys and my youngest boys at the age of 40 I really feel it. Of course if you are young you will be able to snap back much easier than I am. :)

Pregnancy really does things to our bodies. Give it time to rest and recoop a bit before trying to do too much. Congrats on the new baby!

Thanks! I really thought I was feeling normal, except apparently I am not.
