My Dog's first Rat Catch

Last Night I was going to water the garden when I noticed something on the floor, and shocked that I saw a huge dead RAT totally screwed somehow. Then, I asked my mom if the guy who cut our tree during noon, She said No and there's no way he could catch a huge rat like that. In fact, I've seen that rat so good at sneaking through the store room during heavy rain. It could be the cats roaming around, but they don't last five minutes because my dog would chase them away. Im proud of what she did, this is her first time to have killed a rat, probably that rat had been with us for years. The last time I caught a rat like this was due to a rat trap cage.

It is really huge ! There is a long time that I have not seen a rat. When I was a kid, I saw one eating something on the pavement when I was going to school. I stamped my foot near it and... instead of running away it jumped on my foot and bit my shoe. Since this, I am careful with rats. I have had mice times to times here, and my cat is very good at catching them, but with rats like this one, I think he would be afraid. Congrats to your dog.

Yeah, they're a little fiesty and aggressive, that was good because my dog wasn't gonna back down anyways. the big rats are smart and not easy to be captured, some even sneaked at night. one time, huge rat got trap in the kitchen drawer, and he ate her way out! thank you for that. now I really feel blessed having that dog with me.

This is also the first time I heard about a dog catching a rat. Are you really sure that it's your dog who did that?

Actually there is a breed of dog that in the old days was bred to catch rats. It was called a "rat terrier" they are very alert and bright dogs.

Hello Daddy Neil, positive, because cats doesn't hang out in the garden because of this dog of mine. Besides, If you look at the rat closely, it was in total mess, and only my dog can do something like that. She must have wiggle it while the rat was in her mouth lol

@sacmom Oh I don't have that kind of dog, I bet they are strong hunters. But i don't have that much rats outside, only small ones inside and probably another one big rat on the ceiling.

That looks like a pretty darn good size rat! The only rats I see are the ones at the pet shops, but I hear from neighbors there are rats all around the neighborhood that run along the power lines at night! Eek - that rat didn't have a chance - hee hee!

That scares me there, because we got small power lines here too that they can chew off and could cause problems to our house. Well, our post lines here isn't made of wood for them to climb on, but easy to sneak into our house. yeah these are the big ones.

A pat on her back is on its way. Our dogs do that. We have just one now and she does it too. Our Bull Terrier would catch it in its mouth and stand in front of us, Then my husband would pull it out and the dog would willingly release it.

Unfortunately, my dog didn't show it to me probably because she was outside the house, and was never let in. But because of this, she gets more food now than ever. amazing how she got this with out me noticing it.

Im sorry to have suggest you this post, it's just that we don't have a pet rat. instead, we have a pest rat, and drainage hole is in our area which allows rats to come outside and easily enter the house. I doubt mom would allow a pet rat in the house.

@sharon6345 My mom never wanted me to have pets because of her asthma problems. It was pain to have cats before, but all changed when a family friend gave me a dog, then another one given by my eldest brother. since then, we just had dogs.

@sharon6345 well, we can't afford to have cat loose, can't we? only one of the dogs are on leashed. but one time they were both together and the 2nd floor terrace wasn't sealed yet, she ran chasing a cat and jumped right down the floor from the roof top.

Hello LK I definitely need one of those cats who can catch rats, here. Two of them are making our life miserable.

@Letranknight2015 I found that we have two stay cats who roam freely in the landlady's campus. But they are not rat hunters. Two days back, one managed to enter that room, spoiled the milk and went off without caring to see that we also have two rats for her feast

Hahahahaha, that's great, but I could do without the picture.. You know, about a month and a half ago Penny killed a mole because I went to let her in and she dropped the mole. I praise her, and as Ciara was coming in, she went to sniff at it and I shooed her away and I'm glad I did. Because soon Penny started having diarrhea and it got bad enough she was becoming lethargic and I was afraid she had that dog flu going around. However, the vet took a stool sample and there was no virus, so we all assumed that the mole caused her to get sick and if Ciara had also taken it in her mouth, I would have had two sick dogs.

@Letranknight2015 you should be nicer and let the dog stay in some where to. don't tie such a good dog up. is she chained? poor thing
• United States
12 Aug 15
@Letranknight2015 Thanks, I know Penny has gotten a hold of other moles, but that time the mole must have been sick and that is why she got sick. But thankfully the medication the vet put her on made her better in no time.

@Letranknight2015 Your dog is adorable and I only watch a little of that video. Here the biggest rodent we have are mice (well we have squirrels too, but I don't know if they count) so watching that cat with that huge animal in its mouth was enough for me.
