What do you do to stay cool when the heat is raging and the air is heavy?
We have no air conditioning, a house with windows that don't open, and a child that just can't deal with the heat because of his medical needs. We struggle to keep him cool enough that he doesn't become sick. We don't even have air in the car so travel isn't an option
Right now he is in front of a fan with 2 ice packs and laying on a cooling pillow that a friend got him for his birthday. ANd we are still worried about him.

Hey Tammy,
I'd go sit on the porch with him right about NOW. It just got nice and windy.
Are you seeing this sky?

We got rain for about a half hour so it was a bit muggy when I snuck out last... but the breeze is wonderful. We have a bench swing and he fell asleep on it. Now he's in bed resting. I would have just left him there if the rain hadn't come.

@Druscilla034 Makes me miss San Diego back when I was a kid and the heat wasn't anything.

@TLChimes OK. We didn't get rain yet. Stay cool girly, you and the little one.
I feel for ya, because we DO have air, but my mom refuses to put it on. I think she pretends she's in Florida or something.

I feel so sorry for your little one. I think the ice pack and fan is the way to go if you do not have AC in your home or car. Of course you could travel to a store that has AC but that might be more trouble than it is worth.

I have no a/c in house or my truck either, but i have no child suffering..I feel for you and hope you just keep the fan on him with a wet/cool wash cloth on his head and back of neck to cool him off also..

My ac went out last fall, and it will cost to much to get it fixed, as I don't have the money. What I do is use fass as well. I have two window fans for the living romm, plus a floor fan, one in ther hallway, sitting on a chair, one in the kitchen, on the counter, and a window fan for my bedroom. What I do is open the windows at night, and the blinds and curtains. Let them run all night, take the window fans out in the morning, close the drapes and blinds, which keeps the cool air in the house at least for awhile until it gets really hot in the afternoon. It is relatively cool right now though, as it is warm outside and cooler inside. I have the non window fans running, and that helps. I hope that you can get releif from the heat soon, so your son will feel better.

I would keep around a big chilled cup of water (or favorite drink) to keep hydrated. If we are outside, I take around a spray bottle filled with water - sometimes ice water if it's that hot (but surely just regular temp water would be ok indoors). When the kids are feverish, I put a cold, wet towel over their heads. I hope he can stay cool!!!

I take it by heavy you mean humid so with that in mind may I suggest that perhaps the child could wallow in cool water, I know it helps me when it get really hot .... I live in a mobile home with no A/C but luckily the windows open, we also don't get a lot of humidity so the heat is bearable.
