I always have this little fear about diabetes. I think people have portrayed it as the end of world in my country, though I have read and understood that this is not the case. People all around the world are living with diabetes and they are living well. I consume around 3 to 5 teaspoon of sugar per day. In light of this, I would like to know how much sugar do you consume daily?

Its not just the sugar.. its the chocolates, ice creams, cakes, soft drinks, syrups, jams/jellies that we consume which add to the sugar intake apart from simple carbs like rice, bread we consume every day.. Diabetes can be contained if lifestyle changes are made, like strict diet control, exercise, and medication. However, in some cases it does not respond so well to these. also.

Yes, I agree with you. When I said teaspoon of sugars, I meant it coming from all these sources and even more. I myself know a lot of people living with diabetes, some even in their 70s and they are living well. Control does the trick.

@sofssu Most of the products that are sold in the supermarkets provide an indication of the level of sugar in terms of 'gram'. And even a teaspoon with sugar filled in it has a weight.

If you mean "added" sugar, I only consume 1 teaspoon that I add to my afternoon coffee. I am not sure how much sugar I consume that is added in food. You should know that even bread contains a bit of sugar.

Yes, for sure. I know this. But 1 teaspoon added sugar is impressive.

How do you know that you consume only that much . Have you taken into consideration the carbohydrates you take in . They are also sugar forming , my friend .

Taken into consideration indeed. I said 'around'. It's just an estimate.

@excellence7 I heard and seen on TV on a health show that a normal person should only have at least 20 teaspoon of sugar in a day from all forms of foods . Then we have to drink lots of water the whole day to wash them off .
