A 95-plus year old relative of mine had been a highly posted railway officer during the British rule in our country. The other day he asked me to guess what his salary was then.Completely baffled when I failed to guess,he said to me smilingly,'Would you believe if I tell you that it was Rs.5 per month only?' Let me tell you that five rupees is even less than the one-twelfth one US dollar now.I now can't buy a cup of tea with this amount. But with this negligible amount,as he told me,he used to live a comfortable life for the whole month besides saving a little before drawing his next month's salary. I now earn Rs.20000 per month and am living hand to mouth.

Inflation happens when a state prints too much money. The worst example was Germany in the 1930's : you needed to go to a restaurant with a full bag of banknotes to pay your lunch.
