Second Life is a virtual world where people make avatars and have a lot of freedom as to what they do in the world. Unlike MMORPGs, there is no real end game in SL. People can socialize, build things, play a variety of games, or do an unlimited number of things. People from all over the world meet and interact in a variety of user created lands in SL, sharing ideas and knowledge. I began in SL when I was in college. There was a booming trivia circuit and I made many lasting friends from there. I even hosted a trivia game each week for awhile. Today, there isn't quite as much trivia going on, but I'm reconnecting with a lot of my friends as I get back in to logging in.
