Ok, I gotta ask

Does anyone actually USE a paper copy of the phone book anymore? I just went out to the mail box and it was sitting, on the ground oddly enough, in a plastic bag. If I could I would opt out, because I always feel bad just throwing it away. But we don't use one. We rarely call anywhere anyways, and if we do we have the number saved, or can look it up. If technology dies, phones won't work, so the only use I see there might be a firestarter. Do use use yours? Someone out there surely does, but it sure isn't me!

I do not. The last phone book I had was in the last place I lived and I only kept it for sentiment.

I have one and I do use it if I need to look up a phone number, but other than that, it just sits in the drawer. Technology keeps changing so fast that it is hard to keep up with. It is so true that a lot of things can be looked up online instead of using a paper phone book.

plus that book comes out what, once a year? Peoples numbers can change now so often that the info in those things are invalid.

@Jessicalynnt That is true too, as it needs to be kept up to date.

we still have a landline because my mother uses it a lot, but yeah, i look up telephone numbers online, or ask it beforehand from whoever i'm talking to or the place i've been to. i save it on my phone but also write it in an address book.

@Jessicalynnt and also to share it with the household, in case i'm out, for example, repairs and service centers, places where we order stuff for delivery, etc

@hereandthere yeah sometimes the whole, getting multiple calls to see who is home is a bit messy, just not as important, but I can see for some it is.

I use them when I can't get to the internet to look something up. I also use them for the maps when I can't get to a computer. And yes, I have one in my trunk for emergency fire starter.

I only use paper copy phone books when I cannot access the Internet to search for a phone number. These days, I find it much easier to hop on the computer, type out the name of a business and location, and presto get the phone number instantly. I'm not very patient when it comes to searching for a particular phone number in the phone book, particularly when the print is tiny.

You have a point there I did not consider. If I can't read a website I just make the font bigger

I'm happy to use the phone books. We get a general one for home addresses, and two business ones; Yellow Pages and Thompsons. I use them all
