A dream of the future

In an old magazine I found a story about a woman who dreamed of the future. I don't know if the story is true, but I will describe it the way that it was written in the magazine.
The woman met an elderly woman in the street and the elderly woman asked her to deliver a letter for her. The elderly woman told her the address and she told her that she had to knock on the door and give the family the letter in person instead of leaving it in the mailbox. The woman was about to do as she was told, but then she hesitated, because she recognized the old woman from her dream. She decided to say no and then she left.
Some days later she discovered the truth. The elderly woman was actually a man dressed up as an elderly woman and the girls who agreed to deliver the letters were abducted when they knocked on the door. Later they were sold and forced to work as prostitutes. If the woman hadn't seen the old "woman" in her dream she could have been one of those women.
What do you think about the story? Do you think it is possible to dream of the future?

I believe the story. Yes, it s possible. There have been reported cases of ESP or extrasensory perception and I have experienced it too.
The Chinese "Book of Dreams" mentions that dreams in many cases are just a visit to your future - and this is one of the reasons that when you wake up you forget most of the dreams. It is not necessary that what you see tonight will happen tomorrow.
In my case, on one instance (1987), I had seen an accident happen. I was on a cycle and my friend was riding on his by my side. And after a while, a stray dog came running from nowhere and hit his cycle. The friend fell and the handle of the cycle hit him on his forehead injuring him with lots of blood loss. about a week later, this happened. I felt really bad as I had seen this happen exactly the way it happened a week back.
This incident happened about 4 months before we had out annual Book Fair at the City. And when I found this book (The Chinese Dictionary of Dreams) I borrowed money from dad and friends (citing some context or other) and managed to buy it. It was much expensive for those days - priced at about 400 INR for just 200 pages.

I haven't heard of the Chinese "Book of dreams" but it sounds interesting. I am interested in this topic, and I used have a dream journal and a dictionary of dreams. I have had one dream of the future, but I have never dreamed of an accident like you did. I can only imagine what it was like to see that accident happen after you already dreamed that it was going to happen. What happened to your friend? Did he recover after the accident?

@thesids The book that you have seems to have a broader perspective than the book that my friend used..According to your book restart is one possibilty, but not the only possibility, and it depends on the details of the dream. It is interesting that there are those differences. I would like to read your book. What is the name of the author?

@Porcospino Yes, though there was a lot of blood loss, doctors said, it was not anything severe. Some XRays and other tests were conducted to ascertain it there was any Haemorrhage but then it was all fine. Just a stay at the hospital overnight.
The book that I mention has an interesting chapter wherein it predicts what will happen if you see a particular animal or even a particular type of incident. In this chapter it is more based on generic things and leaves the interpretation and relation to you. For instance, it says, if you see yourself falling into blank, you can expect a fall in business, your job or even see a fall in your social status. So you have to relate where you stand and interpret the thing. Sometimes, good sometimes bad. But then, as I said, it is generic on this chapter.

That's quite interesting... Because I already "dreamed" about things that happened to me, but not as explicit as it could be, It was more like in a deductive way(Or something like that, don't know the right word), I already read that people, based in things that they see, or lived, brain can think in many possibilities, and in the ones than can most likely happen, and tell you in dream format.
Don't know if It's true thou, but it's interesting... I am still kinda sceptic about this, but sometimes things that I dream still kinda happen...

The things you wrote about the brain and dreams are interesting. I once read that we experience many things subconsciously and the article said that premonitions are based on the things that we have seen, heard or experienced subsconsciously. I have had one dream of the future. It happened many years ago, but I still remember it very clearly.

@ZHVegas Yes, it is an interesting topic. I used to write my dreams down in a dream journal, but I haven't done that recently.

The story is pretty,"Shylock-ian", I'd say. sometimes you get a beforehand premonition of things, awful things, that are due to take place.

There are several stories about that of kind of premonitions. I have never experienced it, but I have heard many stories about other people who had that kind of experiences.

@Porcospino Such stories surely make gripping reading! Though they might be pretty hard on those, who had to play real life characters,in them.
