Whenever is hear about that word, my mind is reminded of the initial mylot.com and what it did to me. Anyway, I felt so discriminated and unworthy member of human race just because of where I come from. I guess that was the past, forgotten and a new era has come. Oops! With a slim chance that I will be treated like everyone else while here. Only time will tell.

@waflay , As long as I am the admin here, I will not have a member here made to feel that way. If you have any issues with that sort of thing, bring it to my attention and I will deal with it immediately. I have a very no nonsense policy on that sort of thing. You are as welcome here and as part of the myLot community as anyone else.

I think it must be a derogatory term to me..undeveloped but you see that is not always the case..in this country here, many people do not have to do any work to live..and do not appreciate life in the old ways so they must find a name for it..what they do not understand and appreciate..can not appreciate differences..it is called Ignorance for those who do not understand and Arrogance.

I believe during the cold war when certain nations did not join any of the 2 blocs they were called as THIRD WORLD.Gradually other side meanings due to hypocrasy have crept in. Such a poor mentality.

The term was coined by the French writer Alfred Sauvy during the Cold War period in 1952, who classified countries into those belonging to the Capitalist NATO bloc, the Soviet and Communist bloc and those who weren't aligned with either of those two. It did not, as far as I can see, originally have much, if anything, to do with the economic, educational or social status of those countries Knowing the failures and shortcomings of the so called 'First World' and 'Second World' countries today, I think that, if I lived in a Third World country, I would be inclined to feel more proud than anything else that I did!
