Oops, There Goes my USB Port!

Last night I stretched my leg and it bumped my flash drive that was docked into my USB port on the front of my computer. The screen went blank and I realized that I broke the port.
I have done this before in the past and only had the one left, and though it works if I put the drive in right, it's unreliable in the long run, and annoying. Fortunately everything else runs normally. But this is a serious inconvenience since I used it so frequently in the past.
Fortunately I remembered that there are those cables that split USBs into hubs, so I then looked up what would be the best option. Now I have the one I selected ordered and it should be here on Wednesday. It is a hub that is powered so the different ports should be able to operate with great efficiency.
I'm happy in a way, since the other broken one meant I had to switch devices whenever I wanted to access other drives. Now I can have 3 things plugged in at once, and that's a cause for happiness.
Never let something bad ruin your day. This happened right before I went to bed, and yet I went to sleep without worrying. It's good to be able to do that when you need to.

I think we're capable of making a bad situation better. Most of the time people lament that it's bad in the first place and don't act to change that.

@OneOfMany It happens to me. I want to cry that is raining without looking at all the benefits. Suppose people in Cal right now would be glaring my way for lack of gratitude. Not sure how they are going to make it better.

@Bluedoll If they listened to me and got on the water system train, it would get better than waiting for rain to fall. There are many approaches that would make the situation better, but it all requires work. But hey, if they are in the forecast for a 100 year drought then doing something today would spare heartache for tomorrow.

@OneOfMany I have not used a USB hub for years and prefer not to. I always like to have everything contained in the main machine if possible.

Fortunately the hub I ordered has been great to replace it. And it sits on top of my computer, so there's no chance for me to break anything.

@Asylum I like this one because it's easy to pick up and add more devices to, since I only had a few before.

the ports are so fragile I have broken a few too. Extension ports are ok but still dependent on the base port they feed into so do be cautious

Fortunately the port they depend on is in the back, where I'm less prone to damaging them, especially since they are vertical back there.

those of us who are clueless try to search it online. though we hardly understand what we're reading, we will mention bits and pieces to the person who will be fixing it for us.

Yes, with all the different options it's easy to get the wrong one. I did a search and the first option looked great, but it was a USB 3.0 connection and I wanted the USB 2.0 because that would be compatible with my ports. If you don't know that little detail the other one wouldn't work and just lead to frustration.

Yes, fortunately the ones on the back of the computer are completely fine. I will have to run the hub from one of those, and that's why one of the cords there will take up residence in the new hub when it comes.

@OneOfMany I also always use the two ports on the front. It's great there are two more on the back.

@LadyDuck Mine has 4 on the back and 3 on the front technically, but the one on the front requires opening a panel to get to it. It's not difficult, it's just annoying. The other two at the top left were better to work with because they are visible. But considering I broke both, a little more vulnerable.
