Oh No, Springboks!

It is well known by now that the team I support, South Africa, the"Springboks" were defeated by Japan in their opening match at the Rugby World Cup last night.
I for one, am plain devastated. Because as I said in my introduction here I am a South African sport fanatic. That means I only support the"Springboks" in Rugby and the "Proteas" in Cricket.
I will be further watching the Rugby World Cup with my heart in my throat, as I will the "Springboks" to win each and every next game they play.
I can say congratulations to England on winning their opening match as I have family who lives there, and to Japan, well done. But my heart says Go "Springboks" fight on one hundred percent!
If you like sport. Do you loyally and faithfully only support your national team, during a World Cup? Or do you have family ties or family living elsewhere that has you supporting a few others?

I can imagine it must be difficult for you. My cousin also finds it a problem, many ask her why she still supports the Springboks when she lives in England, she says they will always be in her heart. Like your National team stays in your heart.

Your daughter is right @Inlemay . Win or lose, green and gold runs through us. My cousin and her husband who live in England were happy when England won, but heartbroken when the Boks lost last night, they were so sure they would be celebrating a Bok win too. Guess it was a nasty blow to us all.

I think after watching that Springboks game here in NZ we were quite nervous about the All Blacks first game. Although they weren't totally convincing, at least they did beat Argentina. Good luck for the next game. Who do you play next? We play Nambibia or something. That should be okay.

@valmnz , yes, the All Blacks kept fighting to win. Your next game will be Namibia. The Springboks will have to face the Island nation of Samoa. We call them the bone breakers here, so my heart is in my throat, as I said. I can only hope my team will survive and somehow win.

Hi Catherine, I really hope your team does well from now on, fingers crossed for you. Don't want you going into a depression! Those Samoan guys look frightening to me.
I'm sorry I missed this when you posted it and I appreciate you suggesting it to me. Please do that with all your posts, as there's so much to get round here. It takes me ages just to respond on my own posts. I'll get into a routine soon so that I can visit all my old friends first.

Janet, they are scary, eek. Thank you, I hope the Springboks can come out fighting fit and make up for the heartache they caused. There is a lot to keep up with here, so I understand, and I was happy to see your suggestion, because I am not here as much as I would like to be, so it is a great way to be kept up to date with what we do. :-)

@bluesa You must have been pleased that Scotland beat Japan today, levels the playing field a bit
.
So we'll keep each other informed when we do a post then? It's not as if either of us does a lot, so we're not going to be flooding each other's suggestion box.

@jaboUK , and a little, uh oh, moment, that it seemed so easy for Scotland to beat Japan. Were we so weak? And Scotland so strong? It is a scary, scary thought. And yes, let us keep each other informed, we do seem to go at our own pace and not rush along. :-)

That was a complete and utter shock who ever would have thought Japan would have even come anyway near SA. Rugby is so South African.

@garymarsh6 , I think that is why it knocked us extra hard, but, maybe it was a lesson we needed, and hopefully woke the team up, a person can truly only hope.

@garymarsh6 , yes, I could not believe my eyes either. The players and the game was not what was expected at all.

@bluesa I must admit when I first saw them playing I thought where are the Japanese. I was really surprised to see them so large as you normally only see tiny Japanese people. How wrong was I! They were massive blokes! That caught us all by surprise.

I'm not a sports fan - it is good for a national team to win because everyone is so miserable for weeks afterwards if they don't.

@BelleStarr , thank you. I love watching gymnastics and figure skating too! Sadly, they do not broadcast figure skating here, and I have to wait for recordings of special ice-shows or the Winter Olympics.

I am not a huge sports fan, but I do watch the Olympics. I have a daughter that does tumble/gymnastics and a son that plays soccer & baseball. So I always go to their events. On occusion we get tickets to the baseball game & we go see the team here.

I also watch the Olympics and think gymnastics is such a tough sport, it amazes me how they tumble so, to this day I cannot do a cartwheel. So, it is great your kids are sporty and keep super fit, and that you all support the local team.

Ms Catherine ( @blueSA ) - Kinda looks like you are not alone with the locals being defeated in a contest. "My team" went down by one touchdown in a hard-fought football game yesterday. The opposing team did a number on them for sure.
