Competitive or Not?

I noticed what seemed to be a friendly competition taking place in myLot concerning the amount earned thus far for cash out.
I will admit, I have a competitive nature when it comes to certain things. I guess it started back when I was in Jr. High School and was in sports (soft ball and track). Some people tend to look at it in a negative light. I myself find it to be sort of a personal incentive to try and push yourself a bit more. A way of challenging yourself. As long as you don't take it to some kind of extreme.
Are you a competitive person? If so, in what sort of things?

Nothing wrong with not being competitive. I myself am, but only with certain things. As I had said, it stems from my years of paying sports. For if I wasn't competitive, then it didn't pay for me to be on the teams.

I'm not sure if this is considered competitive but I've always strived to be accurate when I was a data entry operator, not that I competed with anyone but since they all bragged about how fast they could type I simply tried to be as accurate as possible, I wasn't as fast as some of them so I went for accuracy.
So, why do people compete about earnings, I find my earnings as a personal thing that I don't generally talk about.

That is quite interesting. You tried to play up your strength and push yourself to do it the best you could. I admire that.
They were just joking around. It wasn't actually a competition, just teasing each other about how much they earned so far. I took it as a friendly competition between two friends.

@sofssu Yes, you are. Basically just friends joking with one another. I have no doubt you will catch up. Eventually that is.

No, I am not competitive either when it comes to the earnings here. It was just something I noticed on a discussion. Yes, I think I do the same thing. It's almost like setting a goal, but not really making it a goal. Simply just a little push, if you will.

@TexanTornado I am not competitive about earnings., I only compete with myself. I always tell myself I can do better than this.

That is the gist of what my discussion is about. A personal accomplishment of some kind to push yourself.

i don't know if i missed some discussions regarding this, and i'm not sure if this is what you mean, but those discussions, responses, comments i've read sharing about their progress, both returning and new members, i didn't find them about competition or comparison. in fact i even asked for clarification on some and gave encouragements to others. to me it is a good sign that mylot is off to a good 'restart' and kept its reputation for regular automatic payment. it's also great to see that the newbies are doing well and their experience, so far, has been positive.

Ok, it seems so many mistook my discussion. There was NO discussion in which a 'competition' was started or stated. A friend posted a comment in a response to a discussion stating that they made X amount and the person who started a discussion that had absolutely nothing to do with earnings, commented back they made X amount and that they needed to make an additional x amount to catch up and friendly bantering between them continued. Hence, I referred to as a 'Friendly Competition'.

I try not to focus on earnings that much as it does have the tendency to be frustrating once the payments don't come in. I'm enjoying the interaction. In a sense I compete with my own performance and set goals of how many interactions, comments, responses I make as compared previously.

I only focus on the earnings when I see someone mention they made payout, or close to it, then I will look at mine, and then check my average to see if I have a chance at making payout.
I do try to push myself a little then.

I'm not very expressive, so if someone knows I'm competing that would be me! And it depresses me out... making me disheartened. So better to focus on the things I feel excited about, like poking a friend!

Yes, I think with sports that I like. A lot of the stuff that pays me online, I get very competitive and groups and online people really rally me to do good. I am sure I'll get payout on myLot soon!

@TexanTornado At my old job, we would get competitive to do our numbers as we would get a bonus. We (co-workers and bosses) would encourage each other.

@callarse1 I think anyone in their right mind would get competitive, if they knew they would get a bonus from it.

Exactly. I think in some weird kind of way almost anything can make us a bit 'competitive', whether we can admit to it or not.

I don't try to be competitive here in mylot, as I know I will lose.
It doesn't matter anyway, as I am here to have fun and interact, and as long as I do that I will earn. I have plenty of time to earn the rest of this month anyway, so I will just continue doing what I am doing.

@rosekiss To me it's like watching a clock, if you gonna stare at it, the time seems to stand still. If I watch the earnings it seems to stand still too. Or maybe it's the earning of .0000016 I don't like to look at.

No, I am not competitive when it comes to mylot either. I was only using comments, I saw on a discussion as a reference point for mine. Yes, I find if I pay no attention at all to my earnings, they tend to add up quicker.
I agree, just continue doing what you are doing.

I never have been competitive at 99% of times. The only 1% is when I am competing against my own self - For instance, when I left smoking (that is ancient now, in 1994), I had to compete against me. At work, there are times when I almost am done with and then redo most of it just because I feel, I could do better, if I tried the other way round.
I never have a feeling of - okay, s/he is better than me and I too should catch up with him/her - I respect them for their individuality and I also respect me for mine. I know my limitations and if I have to be tough and play dirty, I know, I am better than them - but then as I say it is not my nature prove it to anyone.

@TexanTornado A healthy competition is always good. As you say, you can push to better yourself and it is all welcome as long as you and the parties involved take it positively

@thesids Exactly! I have no desire what so ever to make it an out right war, or take it to an extreme. But friendly and between friends it can be a great motivator.

That is a wonderful mentality you have about it. I can clearly see the logic in which you explained and that is great.
I wouldn't say I have a need to make myself look better than anyone else either. I would say it's more of an inner personal goal, to push myself cause I know I could/can do better.

I see nothing wrong with a little friendly competition amongst friends. To me it's a way to push each other a little more for they knowing the other could do better. Sorta like cheering someone on to cross the finish.

@LadyDuck See to me that is a fine example of being competitive but in a personal way. It's a way to try and better yourself. No harm, no foul done to anyone else.
