Skydiving, and Feeling Annoyed on Behalf of Someone Else

Today, I've had a good day. I did a tandem skydive this morning. Glad I did it but not sure I'll be doing it again! Considering I'd never been in an aeroplane before, I think I did OK. Well, I would describe it but it's almost indescribable. It was just strange. I didn't like the initial fall from the plane, and I found the landing quite hard. The rest was pretty relaxed and just weird looking at stuff from so high up, just falling. Everything looked pretend as I looked down. Cars and animals just looked as if I was looking at a model village. I was shaking a little after landing, and I felt a bit sick but not too bad! Anyway, I'd stayed overnight at a hotel because I had to be at the airfield for 8am and didn't fancy having to do an hour and a half drive at that time in the morning so stayed closer and the drive from hotel to airfield was only about 15 minutes. So I'd left Mini at my Mum's last night. I picked him up this afternoon and we're home now. I was looking forward to seeing my boyfriend tonight. I think I was looking forward to that more than to the skydive! I asked him what time he wanted me to fetch him as he was supposed to be staying at mine tonight. He said he wouldn't be over because he's waiting for a problem with his drains to be sorted. He's been having leaks and floods for the past few months. The owners of the flats have said they'd get it sorted but haven't. Now they're saying it's the water company's responsibility. So D has to wait around until someone turns up, which could be any time between now and Tuesday. So of course I'm a little upset that I'm not going to see him but I am also frustrated for him because I know how long he's put up with this, how bad it's been, and I know how it feels to be trying to get something done only to have the buck passed. I'm not sure why he needs to stay home though. If it's down to the water company then the problem will be with outside/underground pipes. If he needs to be in then that would imply that the problem is with internal pipes i.e. within the building which is the responsibility of the landlord. So that's been my day. I'm off to do some other computery stuff, then I need to fetch a key from a friend because I said I'd feed her cats. TTFN

I would absolutely recommend giving it a go if you can. I've thought about it for ages, never thought I'd actually ever get the chance or go through with it. Glad I did.

A paralysed friend of mine did a tandem skydive, and loved it.

I suppose it's one of the few things that a paralysed person can enjoy just the same as anyone else. I must say that it was surprisingly relaxing on the parachute descent.

That's very true. I might consider doing it again but I think I'll stick to keeping my feet on the ground for my next challenge, whatever that may be!

Wow! You had guts to do that skydive! I hope your boyfriend will have those problems sorted out soon.

I kept being asked if I was nervous during the weeks leading up to it. I can't say I felt much of anything, excitement, nerves, etc. On the day, I was fine. It was after I'd done it that the adrenaline kicked in, and last night when I was dreaming about it that I thought what a crazy thing it was to do! I'm not sure I would have done it had it not been for charity though. :) I hope his problems are sorted soon but he's going to speak to someone about moving as we're planning on living together eventually anyway so he's looking for a bigger place.

Congrats on the skydive! I had a very similar experience years ago when I did a static line jump, my first time in the air as well!

I had a look into doing the static line. Is that the one where the line breaks from the plane and opens the parachute? I'm not sure I'd like to do it alone. I was happy doing a tandem. At least then I have someone to land on if things go awry!
