Steaks Well Done or Medium Rare?

I like eating steak now and again but hate it when they serve pink steak with blood in it when I ask for a steak that is well done, or at least medium well done. I ended up going to a steak house last night instead of Nando's as my sister wanted a steak. The food was nice but I had to send my steak back to be well done as it was just too under cooked for me! How do you like your steak?

I like my steak rare, at most medium rare. If I order it in France I ask for medium rare or it will be undercooked.

Some meats does not support to be eaten "well done", like duck meat, and have to be eaten rare. For a steak, it is medium rare for me.

Why is that?

@LadyDuck I prefer to not imagine it. It is not healthy at all to eat any meat overcooked. Because of the Maillard reaction, an oxidation of lipids at high temperature can be carcinogen.

@topffer Can you imagine a Chateaubriand well done! In France I always ask the steak medium rare, but in the United States to have the same you have to ask it "rare", they tend to overcook the beef.

I like mine medium well. A nice stripe of pink through it means it is still moist and flavorful. Haven't had one in years. I get salmon now instead.

@celticeagle I'm not a "fishy" fish lover. Such a shame since I was born so near the ocean and all.... Still, I did grow up in Central Texas.

I like mine well done too. I refuse to eat one that is medium rare, as it tastes awful, and just thought of all that blood makes me sick to my stomach.

@gudheart It looks disgisting to me, and I don't see how they can either. I can't ever recall though, having to send a steak back becasue it wasn't well done.

Depends on the cut, medium rare is my "go to", I would ask for "rare" in places where they tend to chargrill everything. In France, I ask for "medium rare" or it's too raw for me.

I enjoy eating steak. I will prefer the steak is medium rare because it will be software and we can enjoy the juicy steak. If it is well done, although it is safer but not as delicious as the medium race steak.

I always go with well done. Discovering how to make fire and subsequently cook food was a huge leap forward in our evolution. I can't see my elf turning my back on some of man's greatest accomplishments by eating raw meat.

I've always liked them well-done. But since you mentioned Nando's, I think I wouldn't mind choosing Nando's over steak. Mild peri-peri

For me, I like my steaks medium rare. It was a lot different when I was little though, I always had to have my steaks well done! I would gag if I saw a pink steak sitting on my dinner plate! Somewhere along the way I outgrew that! lol

Definitely well done. There can't be any pink at all. Otherwise I won't eat it.

I used to like it cooked..."medium" but not any longer. I ask for "no pink" which drives them crazy, but that's how I like it. lol
