Break Up Led to Suicide

I read today that Jim Carrey's ex-girlfriend has been found dead and it has been ruled a suicide. Apparently, they dated on and off for several months and recently broke up. The suicide note that she left mentioned the break-up and their relationship problems. It is thought that the end of their relationship was a motivating factor in her decision to take her life. I find it very sad that anyone would be so despondent over a relationship that they would commit suicide. And I wonder if I am being cynical or mean when I think that by leaving a note that pretty much blames her decision on the break-up, if her suicide was meant to be, at least in part, an attempt to make Carrey feel guilty. After all, having an ex-lover kill herself is bound to cause anyone to feel a little responsible. It's something that could haunt a person for the rest of his life. It's very sad that she based the worth of her life on a relationship, and also that Jim Carrey will now have to wonder whether had he done anything differently, if she would still be alive.

I hope he doesn't take it too personal, even if it did end horribly, he didn't force her to do it, it was still her choice and her decision. that is also a pretty permanent solution to a temp. problem, sad she couldn't have just gone and gotten help

So many people think it solves the problems, but it leaves problems for all those left behind. In that way, it's tragic all around.

It's very wrong to end one's life , much more blame it to somebody and make that somebody guilty of it for the rest of his life

He seems to not have much luck in the love department. I wonder how much he really cares. He seems sort self interested.

I have to agree with you on that. But, of course, we don't really know what anyone is like deep down. They say though, that Jerry Lewis has a bad temper and is not nice to be around. And he spent his life as a slapstick comedian and philanthropist. So, who knows what Jim Carrey is like in person?

She was obviously in an emotionally disturbed state and needed professional help.

Sadly, when someone takes their life because a relationship ended, they believe it is because that person ruined their lives, and they leave that note in the hope that it will then ruin that persons life, it is all so sad and twisted and messed up.

Unfortunately, she made her life all about being some star's girlfriend.

I hope that Jim Carrey comes to see that he wasn't responsible. Several months is really not long enough to get to know anybody. I believe that if someone wants to end their lives they will eventually do so. It is very sad.

In this kind of situation, no one is responsible except the person who committed the act. I wonder if this was a desperate bid for attention and she didn't mean to actually succeed?

It is sad when anyone does something like that. To bad a friend did not see any signs of her doing that and would have helped her.

I am always so saddened by these things. Why do people believe that their worth depends on someones acceptance.

Self-esteem is very important, also a real understanding of the purpose of life.

I'd have to agree with your interpretation. It sounds like a part of her intent was to make him think about his role in her decision.

So not worth it, just to get revenge on an ex-lover.

Yes it is not wise though as you are always have other options.. But also you don't know what the man or woman going through after break up.. What's going on their head.. You just can't define anyone.. But personally i think if you are going to kill yourself after break up, then you have a loser kind of mind... You never learnt how to live the life properly..
