I was searching for a recipe to prepare tart cherry jam and least did I know the work involved is boring. Imagine having to open up every single cherry to remove the seed. I have two kilos of it and the thought of it makes me run away from the kitchen but whosoever's recipe it is she has done it. If she has done it, why not me. I am back in the kitchen and trying to go through that laborious process. I want tart cherry jam badly for which I will have to sweat it out!!!

@valmnz That recipe did talk about that but there were suggestions there that she had used since she did not have that equipment with her I have a maid who will do that for me I have put off some chores for her that she normally does and this will be her work for today.

@valmnz Val, I also have a small tool to remove the stones from olives. We make stuffed olives that are then covered with bread crumbs and fried. Delicious!

I'm lazy, the jam off the shelves of the supermarket would be fine for me. But, wouldn't you just boil up the whole cherries then skim the stones out after the fruit had reduced itself?

Mine is a different story Val. The tree is laden with these beautiful red cherries. I cannot throw them away. As it is a lot already goes to the compost pit.

@allknowing I guessed that, but have you tried cooking them before removing the stones?

@valmnz I prepare most of my food from scratch at home, but not jam (except pumpkin jam), those sold in the supermarkets are cheap and good.

I have never had fresh cherries before. I would love to try them someday. I have only had cherries in pies and things like that. Neither my kids nor I like the cherry things we have had. I don't even like cherry flavored things like cherry flavored water or capri sun drinks. I would be willing to try the cherry jam but I don't think it is something I would like. I was looking through a martha stewart living magazine today and saw recipes on how to make fruit jams and jellies. I think I am going to try to make the apple jam as I have a ton of apples on the tree in the back yard.

@allknowing I just saw another post that was suggested to me which was about they had made applesauce cake. I thought that was a cool idea to use up a can of applesauce. I pretty much love most fruits without having to add them to anything. I just ate 5 apples from my tree for a bed time snack. I was going to have corn flakes but I had that earlier so I wanted to eat something healthier and went with the apples. I make smoothies a lot. Apples don't work well in smoothies but I have some frozen cherries in the freezer I might try to add to my smoothies. I hope it won't make me dislike it.

Rather than waste your apples it is better you use them. There are many other things one can do with fruits.

That tart cherry jam sounds so good and put it on toast or a muffin and it will be good.

I wish I could. But here people are lazy. They do not want to make something out of them as eating them raw they do not taste good.

I hope it's worth all the effort to make your jam.
