The garden is still producing

Our little 8 x 16 raised bed is still producing - we are down to lettuce and Swiss chard. We love garden lettuce and usually have salads with dinner every day. We will have it until the first frost hits so we'll enjoy every green leaf of it!
Swiss chard needs to be picked, cooked and put in the freezer. We just put two packs of it in the freezer. Everything we put in the freezer is in vacuum sealer bags that way we know it will last.
We don't plan a 'cover crop' so we will just turn the dirt over and say goodbye to it when the time comes. Next spring we plan to freshen it up with some fresh mushroom mulch.
The photo was taken in August - it's too sad looking now to take a photo of it!

@AbbyGreenhill I still have some tomatoes, but now it's time to plant the spinach and cabbages.

i've still a few maters in various stages, need to go pick some peppers 's well. e'en noticed that since the grasshoppers 're less i've a few lil strawberries 'n've great hopes they mature 'fore a frost hits. always put compost in the garden 'n work it in to winter o'er.

Glad we don't have chickens! Do you like chard or spinach the best?

@Fleura We have the colored ones also and to my taste chard has more flavor...it hold up better when cooked. We never tried growing spinach maybe we should try it next year.

@AbbyGreenhill I like spinach best, I think chard has a rather 'muddy' sort of flavour. I have the multi-coloured type though and it does look cheerful!
