This is a great family game: Do you remember Pass GO and collect $200. The Monopoly game is currently published in 47 languages and sold in 114 countries. There's the battleship, top hat, Scottie dog, racecar, thimble, boot, cat, and wheelbarrow to be moved around the board and some other tokens we've seen include an elephant, purse, and a bag of money.. Do you remember the four railroads and two utility spaces. What token do you remember wanting to us when you played the game.? Did you know the original Monopoly games only cost $2 back around 1935.

I am used to the London edition of Monopoly, but presumably Americans play with a New York version? There are now many regional versions, including Leicester - I have never played it, but would love to put a hotel on Welford Road!

Interesting facts about Monopoly I never knew before... I heard the modern ones come with some kind of an ATM machine for the banker. I don't know if I'd like that, I think I prefer the original way. I remember the 4 railroads and 2 utilities. But I can't remember which token I liked to use.

It's certainly a game that has lasted through time. And thank heavens there are still people with the patience to play a whole game.

It is one of the few games that has been around a long, long time. It is amazing that there are people who can sit that long and play the game, amazing.

I love love love that game. I played it very often with my cousins when we were younger. They're very costly here but I plan to buy one when my kids are old enough to play it. I think I used to like the thimble.

I have not encountered Monopoly for a very long time now, but it was one of the most successful board games ever devised. With the exception of very young people, everyone has played monopoly at some time or other. I can still picture the board layout with 4 stations water and electricity board plus community chest and chance. However, I would certainly need to refresh my knowledge of the rules in order to play these days. In particular I cannot remember the criteria for adding houses and hotels to a street.

They all come with instructions and I don't think the game has changed very much from what it used to be with some exceptions.

That's easy enough - you have to own all the properties in a colour group before you can build, and you can only do so when it is your turn to roll the dice. You have to build "evenly" - you can't put four houses on one property and none on the rest. You can only build a hotel as the "5th house" on a property.

Wow, 80 years old. I love Monopoly. To this day it is my favorite board game. Although I have seen the new ones and they seemed to have changed some of the rules. Not good. I had one from years ago that was put out by Parker Brothers. That was the one I remember most. I would love to get my hands on a vintage one.

@inertia4 Maybe you can look on Amazon, Ebay or craigslist in your area and see if anyone has one for sale. Changing the color of the money from green to what? How strange that is.

@Marcyaz I need to get me a vintage Monopoly game. My daughter got a new one and they changed the color of the money and also changed some of the rules. I am not a fan of it. I need the original one.

I remember the family game with real metal pieces and real wood motels. I was afraid to go to jail and cried the first time. Picture is Charles Darrow inventor of the game.

@Marcyaz Not a problem. I am so smart I can remember these things. Actually I looked it up. I was curious though at one time how people living in the depression came up with things or kept working. PS: rolled a six can you move my player, I have the wheel barrel.

@Marcyaz You're welcome. I do have an eye for typo details. It does. I always lost and ended up in jail, when I played it with my family. As for McDonald's Monopoly, I had no such luck.

I don't know that Monopoly is already 80 years old. I was used to play it in my childhood. When my child was little, he also liked to play it. So this game has been with us for a few generations already. It is so amazing.
