Important contractors calling but not telling you when.

Don’t you just love it when engineers or builders or electricity / gas and computer repair people tell you what day they are coming to see you but not what specific time, so you end up waiting in all day if they don’t come until quite late on. Arthur Chappell

At least they should tel you that they are coming in the morning or afternoon or evening. They can't expect us to wait for them all day. I think they have a schedule on hand. They can at least say that they can reach your place earliest by 11 am, and that you are the third in the list.

Exact times may not be possible as they can't be sure how long many jobs will take at preceding call outs but rough approximations and ball-park times should be possible, with phone calls or texts if they are going to be later or delayed.

often here they dictate the appointment times rather than coming when you want / need them

This always annoys me because I end up setting my alarm to be up early and waiting until 5 PM. If I had an approximate time I could get up later, go out to the stores and still be available in plenty of time.

It is rare here, except for the electric company which gives appointments like "1 pm / 5 pm", so you have to be ready to lose an afternoon waiting for them.

it's unfortunate, but I see the other side of it. Say there is one air guy. He has three jobs, you are set up as job 2. he doesn't know how long job 1 is going to be. It's hard to predict that kind of thing. I usually as for a call 30 minutes ahead, and I will be home, within thirty minutes of that call.

i reckon it's diff'cult to know what 'xactly those folks're gonna encounter when they go'n a call 'n thus that's why they dislike givin' a definite time they'll be anyplace.

I hate in-efficiency = lateness is rudeness and I normally get someone else in.
