We saved a big repair bill

We had a problem with our ice maker last Saturday. It would put out one or two cubes only and it took minutes for that to happen. This fridge is a Kitchen Aid with the freezer on the bottom. It's just 4 years old. My husband played around with it, turned the ice maker off and on a few times, waited, nothing.
We got out the book that came with it and basically it said if there is no ice the water line must be damaged. Well, the line couldn't be damaged as we have not pulled the fridge out. So we went away last Monday for a 4 day vacation and figured we would have to get a repair guy to fix the ice maker when we got back home.
The ice maker wasn't the first thing on my mind when we returned since I was busy unpacking, washing, putting things away and getting back into a normal routine. About 3 hours into our return I asked my husband if he had looked at the ice. He hadn't but he went right to the fridge and prayed...guess what? The ice maker was working and the bin was full of ice.
I don't try to understand electronics or electrical things, but there must be some reason it stopped and then started again. We are just happy we won't we won't have to spend several hundred dollars to get it fixed.

It is amazing that we handle so many gadgets without knowing the ins and outs of how they work. Something attempted something done is all what I can say about your ice maker. That pottering that your husband did must have helped whatever that is

I think you are right - and I hope that the next time something breaks he can fix it the same way.

Glad it worked out. I had a bit of trouble with the icemaker on our fridge too, though the fridge itself has a lot more problems that the ice maker.

I bet the ice maker knew you needs to get away and so gave you a surprise by working again after you returned. I am so glad you saved on a bill.

I'd have saved myself on that repair bill too... by using ice cube trays to make ice and not caring that the ice machine was broken! Actually, I don't really use ice anyway so I'd just live without it.

maybe there had been some air in the pipes so some space between the water or something, like bubbles. or maybe gremlins
