Does your dog chew too?

Our black Lab puppy Sophie, is really into chewing, and it seems to have gotten worse this week. I've read online the horror stories of things that dogs have chewed up. I know we have to get this under control before she gets worse. Any suggestions? Image source - lilnana1111 photo of our Lab Sophie

I stopped all my dog from chewing when they were a baby. I always have given them toys or stuffed animals to chew on. I know my sister in law had a problem with their dog chewing up their flip flops. So my nephew took all the flop flops the dog chewed up and make a collar of them and tied it around the dogs neck. the dog walked around the yard like this for 3 weeks with chewed up flip flops around his neck. When they took it off the dog no longer chewed up flip flops. Buy your dog some bones to chew. If he goes for something else take it away and give him back the bone. Tell him that this is his and not the shoe or what ever else he was chewing on. This is the best way to train them. I normally start during the house breaking stage. Making sure they know what is theirs and what is mine. Seems to work every time. I had had 5 dogs in my life and none of them chewed up my shoes or other stuff around my house or yard. I did have one dog that loved to chew my pots for my plant. I did what my nephew did and tied them around his neck. You now what he stopped chewing up my pots for my plants.

We give her toys, but she eats them all, elk horns have been the things that last her the longest.

@lilnana1111 Try the giant raw hide bones. I mean the giant ones for her. They will last. This normally goes on for about the first 6 to 8 months I found out.

Yes, she has all her permanent teeth, according to the Vet. I think she just gets bored.

I am having the same problem with my puppy but she is 3 months old and still has her baby teeth. With her, she is teething and she can be a handful some days, wanting to chew on everything in site. I haven't found an answer yet but I hope someone can give you some advice.

My dogs when they were pups chews up everything they can find. I have changed our furniture three times cause of that but when they have grown. they stopped. I think that's how thy are like children. They like to destroy their toys when still toddlers. They're good dogs and very loving.

Labs love to mouth things. Our Leah- possibly a black Lab mix- 3 years old now- picks things up and carries them around. She has picked up a rock and once my husband dropped a screw when he was working on a project. Leah gal picked that up- she brings it to me, her eyes sad. She wants that object so bad but she knows she should not have it. Keep your pup busy. Dogs need mind games as well as physical games. The Kong balls are fantastic, too. Put some peanut butter in one and let your pup have a good time.
