... and stopped at the one I wrote this date in 2012. It was about the tenth anniversary of Bali bombing. So it reminds me that today marks 13 years of the tragedy that killed 202 people. It may not be as widely remembered as 9/11; but I find it interesting how the two events are coincidentally related in dates - there was 9/11 in 2001 and the Bali bombing was on 10/12 a year later... For Australians, the anniversary will always be a sad reminder of the 88 Australian victims. Today, families of the victims gathered at a Bali Memorial held in a New South Wales beach to mark the 2002 bombings.

I do think 9/11 has rather overwhelmed many other equally tragic events in the public awareness.

@boiboing Do you think that would really have that big an impact? I mean almost all the people who 'loved' Princess Diana didn't even know her, that's not at all the same.

That gave me goose bumps. I'm sorry to say I am not familiar to that event. Its very sad to know about it and to know the news didn't sink in when it happened.

It's a huge news here when it happened as can be imagined since Australia had the most number of victims.

@sishy7 I do remember and a while ago I was in a café when I overheard the lady at the next table telling her friend she had lost her daughter there.

Oh my gosh, I don't remember that either! It seems history will never fail to repeat itself - "people" never learn from these bombings and terrorist acts.

@sishy7 It's interesting how media affects what we remember about certain events too.

Perhaps the location where it happened might also have something to do with hearing and remembering about the event. I'm sure people in Indonesia and those closer to Bali would remember it more than those who are half way across the globe.

I vaguely remember this incident. I think at the time there was some conspiracists because of the dates and how they were consequential. It's sad when tragedies like these are lost to time and memories and the heart shattering effect it had on people are forgotten.

I guess it has become harder for us to forget since most of the victims were Australians.

I do not remember the Bali bombing. Those tragic events still happens. Two day ago there was an explosion in Turkey that have killed more than 100 people and injured at least 240, but I have not seen the news spread around the world.

@sishy7 No, I fear that these things will go on forever. It seems that humans do not like peace.

News reporting is very selective. We get a biased view of the world and therefore a distorted idea of what is important.

That might not have been a coincidence at all.

You could be right... there are lots of speculation on these things, I'm just not too interested in following the details of the findings...

There really is no good at all that can possibly come out of terrorizing others...

Unfortunately these tragedies happened too many times and some of them may not made headline news enough to be remembered...

I guess there couldn't really be an 11/13. Although here that would be 13/11 so yes there could. Seriously though these attacks on innocent people are all terrible, I am sorry for those who lost their lives on that day and for the people who loved them.

Yeah, although the coincidental date did not continue (as I don't think anything like this happened on 13 November 2003) but sadly we still hear this kind of attacks continue to happen around the world...

I think it is important that we take time to remember these sad occasions. It can be an important reminder of why we need to stay vigilant against terrorism.

It's true - no one likes remembering tragedies but there should be at least something that can be learned out of them.
